Bernice Aeschliman SYNOPSIS Bill Haily objects to the efforts of his wealthy and youthful Uncle Jimmie to mate him with Mab, a sweet but quiet girl whom Uncle Jimmie has selected for a niece-in-law. The uncle has promised to leave part of his fortune to Bill if he will marry as instructed, and part of it to a prize- fighter, Battling Bennie Bozo, if Bennie remains unmarried. Bill's sister, Lil, seeks to have her brother marry Mab as the uncle desires, and plots to make him tired of his romantic desires for a motion picture bride. So Lil gets her school friend, Patricia, to visit their home in the guise of a motion picture star, and Patricia loses little time in en- snaring the hearts of all the boys in the neighborhood. Bill so completely loses his head over her that he takes money from Uncle Jimmie's trunk to make an impression on the movie queen. The theft is discovered, and Mab, knowing who took the money, pleads guilty to save Bill. Patricia adriotly saves the situa.tion, but by this time Bill is not so enamored with the dashing visitor, and remorsefully begins to appreciate Mab. It develops that while pretending to iiirt with the others, Patricia has confessed her identity to Uncle Jimmie. and she brings a sud- den end to her flirtations by announcing the marriage of the two, while the other romances are settled in equally satisfactory fashion. 1926 IPAGE 231

SOPHOMORES 'Twas on September third, nineteen hundred and twenty-four when our class, then consisting of twenty-four students, gathered for the first time in the assembly hall of the Cissna Park High School. Yes, we were Freshmen and the other classes called us green. Well, how could they expect anything else? We had never been in this large and spacious building before. We could not see everything with one glance, and I suppose we did look rather green and bewildered as our eyes wandered around the room. Days came and went and we finally became acquainted with our fellow classmates and our new surroundings. It was then that the other classes had a chance to look at us in wonder, for their gaze no longer caused us to blink our eyes and turn away, and they plainly understood that our minds were not blank, but were capable of some day holding as much as their own. Finally, after about a month of school had passed and everything was settled, our class had a meeting at which they elected their officers, and , , aa-nottof yellow and white. Then it was decided upon that we should have the yellow rose for a flower and Build for character not for fame, as a motto. 1926 IPAGE 251
