L' lx ,Az H , VV AL X J J . . -.u'.x'-,- l . 1 ,' is Q ,f A' ls ir ll x-x The school representatives in declamation and extemporaneous speak- ing were Junior members. We had reached the longed for goal of being Seniors. Our enrollment however, had slightly changed as Bessie York entered Milford High School and Wilbur Zbinden stayed behind. Nevertheless after taking account of the students, the membership proved to be greater than it was before as Blanche Ward entered from Buckley High School, Zazelle and Lynden Meredith and Opal Judy from Wellington High School and Carl Kuebler and Richard Brenner returned to complete their High School education by tak- ing the fourth year. The faculty of the school had been increased so that besides Mr. Sulli- van and Miss Hahn, our teachers consisted of Miss Chappell, Miss Rietz and Mr. Courtright. A baseball team was again organized in which the main stays were Seniors. The basketball squad consisted of the Senior men the same as of the year before. Having regained all of their old pep and enthusiasm they managed, by means of good clean lighting, to Win the county championship, the second time such a feat had been accomplished in the history of the school. In track the Seniors were the leaders. They excelled in field and track events. All the former activities in the various Glee Clubs, in Chorus and Orchestra, were resumed, in each of which some members of the Senior Class participated. The school representative in extemporaneous speaking and decla- mation was a Senior Q the second year that our class had the honor of furnish- ing the participant. Although our number kept continually decreasing, almost half of the original students stayed together unto the end. Since the fourth year had been added to our High School, we were honored with the privilege of being the first Seniors. We had reached the zenith of our heighth. We have tried to do justice to our exalted position by setting a good example for those who will follow in our footsteps. Selah! Misconstrued Said a mother to her studious son: You are pale from studying night and day, Too long over books you toil. Now tell me, haven't you, Carl, Been burning the mid-night oil ? And her studious boy admitted, With a blush 'twas even so, But said he 'twas only a little, For he turned the lights down low. -A. G. Y. 1926 IPAGE 201

' fyaigw cy.. 1' 'sf' Q lvl Wllilluii f I shngwa -7 A 'il' if Class Historq The class of 1922 started out with 28 students, the largest enrollment of any class which had ever entered the C. P. H. S. We were under the supervision of Mr. Sullivan, Principal, Miss Hahn and Miss Hoyt. We entered our Sophmore year with the class membership greatly decreased by the leaving of Helen Hasselbring, Dorothy Norton, Nettie Scharlach, Martha Winger, Mary Spelbring, Harry Markwalder, Wilbert Seggebruch, Lester Boylan, Edward Eberhart and Louis Hofbauer. I We had emerged from the pupa stage at last, glad to pass on our repu- tation as green to the new Freshies. The Sophomore class furnished two men on the first team in basket- ball. It easily won the school championship this year by defeating the Freshmen and Juniors. A Boys' Glee Club was organized this year containing three Sophomores. A number of the Sophomores took part in the chorus. During the second semester Roy Harweger and Leona Steiner left school and Frances Gibbons moved away. Bessie York, however came to us from Danville High which left us sixteen students by the end of the year. Literary societies Were organized and contests were held with the re- sult that the school representative in extempore was a Sophomore. The faculty for this class which was gradually becoming the most active, was Mr. Sullivan, Miss Hahn and Miss Perisho. We had persistently endured the hardships of the Sophomores and had reached the highway which made us Juniors. In looking over our ranks as Juniors we found that all had returned to school. Our faculty remained the same except for the replacement of Mrs. Guingrich for Miss Perisho. Baseball was a popular sport and almost every Junior turned out. The chief sport of the school was basketball. The Junior men made up the first team entirely. They put up a good fight in all the games caus- ing their opponents to recognize their quality. The Junior athletes occupied the main positions in track and field work. The Boys' Glee Club, which was largely made up of Juniors, had be- come an important factor of the musical element. They were in demand at entertainments and had become quite popular. N The first Girls' Glee Club was organized during our Junior year in which several of the girls participated. 1926 LPAGE 191
