From the first day of their organization as a board to the present time, their one aim has been to give the children of this community, educational opportunities not inferior to those of surrounding schools. Every new need has been met with a spirit of fairness to everyone, and no doubt, as our school continues to grow, and new needs and courses continue to arise, the same fine spirit of better education will continue to prevail with our board. We are glad to have them all back again next year. 1926 IPAGE 81

Cfhe Spirit of Our School I, the spirit of the Cissna Parh Community High School, have wit- nessed many things during the past year. My material being was founded on March 11, 1925. My power to influence the life about me, and especially that of the youth about me started on its never-ending journey on Septem- ber 7, 1925. , For nine months I have been an inspiration to eighty-Jive boys and girls. Some it is true will forget me early, but to the great majority I shall be as a master architect, to mould into their lives the foundation for that temple which they have yet to erect, and not until life itself is passed, will my influence be spent. Hundreds of others who may not feel the immediate touch of my wand, will nevertheless be influenced indirectly by me. Education is a physical process. Its focal point is the reaction of mind upon mind. My aim is to help one generation to know, to use, and to improve its social heritage from the generation preceding. My traditions are largely what this class of 1926 have made them, and while I am yet but an infant, I have witnessed in my one year my proteges rank first in their county in many of the activities which I sponsor. Who is there to gainsay that as years pass on, I shall grow ever broader in my traditions and more powerful in my influences. Shall I not ere long stand the dominant influence to youth in this entire community? 'Though I am now but an infant, I shall never reach my maturity, for the spread of my influence shall be continuous. I shall never reach my climax to dwindle away and die, but shall ever expand and grow. Yea Verily I say unto you I am here to stay. IPAGE '21 f 1926

Like every good thing thrust upon society, its inception originated in the minds of the Minorty. It came, not like the Goddess Minerva who sprang full grown from the brain of Zeus, but rather like the French Democracy, which was defeated and trampled a number of times, only to rise the more glorious because of its struggle for its early existence. The high school organization suffered its first defeat in the year of 1920, when those opposed carried the day by a small majority only. Again in June 1923 the opposition prevailed and the organization was defeated. Finally however in March 1925, the final count of votes showed a small majority in favor of the high school. A board was soon elected and plans were made for' the Cissna Park Community High School to go into opera- tion in September 1925. It's first year of activities is just now ending. We believe that the Cissna Park Community High School has come to stay. We believe that with the size and the population of its district, the enrollment will continue to increase and the school will ever grow in its service to the community. Just as any good thing of a community stands out as a thing of pride to that locality, so will our school merit the backing of our citizens and stand forth as a thing of which they may be justly proud. We hope that it may stand forth as a center of culture, cooperation, and service, a competent guide to the youths of the community during their four most impressive years, helping them to form proper tastes, prejudices and habits. We trust that through their contact with the school, our children may gain an understanding of life and the natural laws that in- fluence it, grow in self-confidence, self-control, and self-respect, find their possibilities and limitations, discriminate between culture and coarseness, good and evil, learn to exercise a driving power in attacting worthwhile problems, experience the joy in striving and the pleasure that comes from doing good work, and build into their personality, ideals, aims and pur- poses to lead them on to the best expression of themselves and the greatest service to our community.
