Golf l lst Row: Ronnie Buskirk, Diane Mason, Mr. Brudzinski, Larry Gordon. 2nd Row: David Slyers, Paul Allison, Phil Wantz. Dig that crazy golf team! This phrase would immediately enter your mind lf you were driv- ing past the Pickaway County Country Club and saw the Circleville High School golf team practicing. Five boys and Diane Mason com- prise the team. Suppose one of the boys were two 'feet away from the eighteenth hole and this short putt would put him one stroke ahead of his teammates. If by accident he misses the putt, think of all the nasty words roaming through his mind, he must hold back because a girl is present. Maybe Diane does keep the boys in line but we are very proud of her because she is the first girl, in the history of our school, to be on the golf team. Of course, there are five other pros?? on the team, Paul Allison, Ronald Buskirk, Larry Gordon, David Styers, and Phil Wantz. Yet this team would not be complete without the assistance and guidance of their coach, Mr. Brudzinski.

Varsity Basketball Although the varsity basketball team was short on height this year they played consider- ably good basketball. The team was victorious over Hillsboro on the home court. After a three minute overtime the score was still tied 67 to 67. After a furi- ous sudden death play off, one of the boys was fortunate, in a way, to get fouled. The boy, Ed Tomlinson, made both of the fouls, winning the ball game. Over the Christmas holidays the boys and coach Mr. William Red Courtney, were in- vited to the Hamilton Invitation Tournament in Cincinnati. They lost first to Lockland Wayne and then to Old Woodward. Both of these teams are rated high throughout the state. Lockland Wayne boys were on the all-state team last year. Circleville gave them a lot of competition. Jim McConnel won a trophy down there for being one of the outstanding players during the tournament. All through the season the boys seemed not to get that one spark to pull ahead to win. They lost most of the games by only a few points. This year, according to all reports, the C. H. S. cagers lacked experience as well as height. The first string included four iunlors and a sophomore, all of whom expect to be out for basketball, come next November. lst Row: E. Tomlinson, B. Wellington, Mr. Courtney, D, Strawser, B. Schneider. 2nd Row: M. Davis, R. Jones, .l. Curry, W. Sieverts, J. Callihan, E. Martin.

Reserve Basketball Reserve cagers this year have had a pretty good season, wlnnlng 8 and losing 10 games. ln their class competition the boys seem to be the right height but have been slow getting the ball back down the floor. Among reserve teams in the South Central Ohlo League the C. H. S. boys have held on firmly to second place which is a very good rating. These youngsters are well above average height, a fact which will help the varsity a year or two hence. Outside of the league the team played Bex- ley and Central who were the leading con- tenders in the Central Buckeye League. They lost both of these games by a very small mar- gin. We were proud of the team for defeating Marion Franklin, the leading team In their league. Mr. Richard Boyd is the coach, while Mike Davis is head manager, assisted by John Lewis, Eddie Martin and George Myers. lst Row: R. Brown, D. McClarren, D. Phillips. 2nd Row: J. Hoover, N. Kelly, T. Barthelmas, D. Banks, B. Fraser, J. Davis, T. Krinn. 3rd Row: J. Lewis, M. Hosler, K. Dawson, B. Johnson, C. Stewart, F. Garner, Mr. Boyd. I
