Junior Class Play On the nights of November 18 and l9 the Junlor class presented the play, Night of Janu- ary 16th, concerning the m u r d e r o f Biorn Faulkner. Excitement ran high as the cast sat in the makeup room rehearsing lines and actions and hoping that on stage nothing would go wrong. When the lights were blinked the secretaries lJudy Hurst and Nancy Ankronl along with Clerk of the Court lMarllyn Evansl took their places on stage. Defense Attorney Stevens lLarry Gordonl and District Attorney Flint lWalter Sievertsl were next to enter and take their places be- side their secretaries. A hush fell over the audience as the accused Karen Andre lNancy Barnhllll entered es- corted by Prlson Matron lMary Wilsonl. The baillff lDick Greenol entered and called forrcourt attention. Sammy Ritter entered por- traying the Honorable Judge Heath. Then the actlon began. Defense Attorney Stevens called witnesses for the accused, start- ing with John Schraub as Dr. Kirkland. Private Detective, Homer Van Fleet lTom Vaughnl, Patrolman, Elmer Sweeney lJerry Johnsonl, handwriting expert, Jane Chandler lCarol Senior Class Play THE GREAT BIG DO0RSTEP The orchestra, under the direction of Truman Eberly, has iust finished playing This Ole' House . As the curtain was drawn open, four characters were thinking about their lines. Gall Dunlap, as Evvle, and Bev Elsea, as Topal, were busy with their deeds as Patsy Neff and Margie Magill, ten-year-old twins, were playing with their dolls under the tree. The play continued on and shortly after, the audience was introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Cro- chet, played by Robert Lamb and Diane Mason. Arthur, played by Joe Smith, was thrown out of his home because Mr. Crochet, his father, found his dogs lying on his bed. Arthur is quite a problem child, but he did find a set of door-steps floating down the Mississippi Riv- er, which Introduces us to the plot of the play. Mr. Crochet wants to build a house to go with these door-steps only he can't seem to find enough money. lt seems that Mrs. Dupre, Bassl, Mrs. John Hutchlns llinda Dresbachl, and the maid for the murdered man, Magda Svenson lJuliann Smithl were each called to the witness stand by Stevens and cross-exam- ined by District Attorney Flint. The entrance of Nancy Lee Faulkner, wife of the murdered man, played by Beverly Run- yon, and her father, John Graham Whitfield lRichard Alkirel, caused more excitement and mystery. Marsha Morgan, as the night club dancer Roberta Van Rennsselaer, was a riot as she twisted down the aisle flirting with all the men. Gangster Larry Regan lBill Purdinl put a new light on the case when it was discovered he was in love with Karen Andre, and was ac- cused of murdering Biorn Faulkner. Sigurd Jungquist, lRoger Southwardl trusted friend of Mr. Faulkner and ex-convict, startled the audience by accusing John Graham Whit- field of the murder. When the iury, which was chosen from the audience at the beginning of the play, retired to reach a verdict, everyone sat on the edge of their seat. Both nights Karen Andre was pronounced NOT GUlLTY . the land-lady of this lot, has different ideas and Lura Purdin, who is Mrs. Dupre, presents qulte a problem. Everything appears rather depress- ing until Uncle Dewey, or Kenny Williams, lights up in their heads. It also is evident that Dewey has a steady iob and a little money. After getting the money from Dewey, It turns out to be counterfeit and the family is back where they started. Meanwhile Evvie and Topal have their love problems with Tayo, Jim Palm, and Tobin, Ray McFee. This little big adds to the humor of the play. But, Hold On! The play is not fin- ished yet! Avanell Thomas comes in to save the day and the play. She portrays the florist, who wants to buy the lilies that Mrs. Crochet has grown in her back yard. This gives the family enough money and they finally get a new house to go with The Great Big Door- step. We give credit to Jane Wallace, our student director, The Production Staff, and Mrs. Pruden, the director, for such a fine play.
