E plison Mu Sigma Epsilon Mu Sigma or English Merit Society is an organization of honor students-sophomores, iunlors, and seniors with a 3.5 average ln English the previous semester. A record-breaking membership of 50 stu- dents constitute the club this year, thus proving that the one requirement is not unobtalnable. E. M. S. meets every other Monday evening during the school year. The program committee for each meeting always provides an Interesting program. Hi Notes, a school paper contributed to by each member, has been published each month. The willingness of each member to work, the perti- nent covers emanating from Jane Wallace, and the helpful dlrectlons from the editor, Judy Hurst, probably account for its popularity. The annual assembly for the student body was presented ln February. It was dedicated to note-worthy Americans. An outside trip to a historical place or suitable play marks the climax of the year. A tea given for the parents of the members concludes the year. lt is at this time that the new officers are announced. To develop a universal feeling of sportsmanship through .the media of girls' athletics, to increase our knowledge of sportstand thelr terms, and to provide an opportunity for physical, mental, and soclal development, such are the aims of the Girls' Athletic Association founded ln November l95l. Thirty-five members of the G. A. A. plus the cheerleaders, who are honorary members, have been working hard since the beginning of school to organize and sponsor the cheering section, which has helped to boost the enthusiasm in sports. Besides preparing a basket of food for a needy family at Thanksgiving and Christmas tlme, the G. A. A. sponsors Intra- murals, which are open to all students taking physical education. They enioyed acamping trip In the spring of the year. Some of their other proiects have been to sell football plns and penants, to sponsor dances at school and to have a Christmas party and a bake sale. Boys and girls from grades nine through twelve are eligible for membership in the Photography Club. To be in the group one must own or have the use of a camera, main- tain a C average, and cooperate in the use of the school dark room. This is one of the most active although the newest of the high school organizations and is open to both girls and boys. Aim of the group is to stimulate interest in photography-not only in taking pictures but also in developing and enlarging. Some of the members of the club have sub- mitted snapshots for the year's Circle. Mr. Stanley Spring and Mr. Kester McCain are the advisers.
