Baseball At the Spflng mcetlng of the S C Ol. officlals In 1948 It was declded to form a S C O League In baseball as there was ln other sports SINCE that tIme Washlngton C H Greenfield WIl mlngton and Hlllsboro all have been trylng to knock off the hlgh flylng Tlgers from CIrclevIlle but all have falled To prove thls the TIger baseballers have racked up four stralght league crowns and are looklng forward to number five thls season One of the maln reasons for the Tlgers fine record IS the good coachlng of Mr John Daugh erty Mr Daugherty always turns out a fine hustllng ball club whIch IS essentlal If you are to wIn ball games He IS wlthout a doubt a very fine coach and we are lucky to have hIm re at C H Last years ball club was one of the best In Central Ohlo They won every league con test In addItIon to putting up a terrlfic fight ID the tournament They tled a very strong Llnden McKInley team LWICE l l and 2 2 only to lo e the thlrd game Llnden McKInley then went on to become runners up In the state For the first time ID three years there was track competltlon In the South Central Ohlo League thls sprIng However unless you had a car you dld not see the local team In actlon Yes we are sorry but all of the track meets were away from home Returnlng lettermen thIs year and theIr first events were John PODLIOUS pole vault MIke Brown pole vault Dave Coffland hurdles As stated above the Tlgers are looklng for ward to champlonshlp number five thls sprlng and they certalnly have a rlght to do so as they lost only two boys of last year s champlon shlp team Returnlng lettermen th s year Include three boys who w'll be playlng theIr fourth year of varslty ball These Include Dudley MOFFIS who IS one of the best pltchers In the state of OhIo Jerry Rooney and Roger Ben nlngton two hard hlttlng outfielders M Daugherty IS expectlng qulte a bIt from these three boys Other lettermen returnIng Include Jerry Prltchard who wIll probably catch thIs year Jlm Cook who wIll hold down first base Ronnle Bennlngton who IS only a sophomore but wIll get the call for second base and Ted Mogan who wIll probably Ioln Roger Bennlng ton and Jerry Rooney In the outer gardens Thls makes a falrly strong team except for the left Slde of the Infield where a shortstop and a thIrd baseman are badly needed If how ever Mr Daugherty can come up Wllh a couple of SUTPFISCS as he IS very capable of dolng the fifth stralght champIonshIp trophy wIll be restlng In CIrclevIIle come June GC Charles Johnson 440 Jlm Lelst half mlle Kenneth Weaver mlle and Gene Cllfton lO0 yard dash Others out for the team thls year were JIm Hoffman George Troutman Bob Chalfin Fred Brown BIII GIlllS Sam Sark Gary Cooper and Charles Maglll The manager thIs sprlng was Kenny Crawford . . . . , ' , . . . . . .
