ltarmty BasketbaH Clrclevllle s basketball team finlshed the sea son wlth a 7 T4 record llncludlng tournament gamesl lt was one of the most dlsappolntlng seasons for both the players and fans In recent years The Tigers engaged In a series of In expllcable defeats at the hands of Inferior ball clubs The team was loaded with per ence and talent Despite this the boys suffered loss after loss It IS one of the mys terles around old Roundtown Why couldnt they win? lt has never been fully explained and probably never will b Bennettmen finished beh nd Greenfield and Washington C H In thlrd place In the S C O with a 3 4 mark Even though he season was poor considering the number of games won the boys dld not quit They put forth effort but seem ngly they gust dld not cllck It will have to go down ln history as gust one of those things The i952 Tlgers dd extract some measure o consolaton from the dismal season how ever They became the second team In Clrcle ville history to wln a game In a dlstrlct tourney The Bengals dump d Columbus Central tn thelr first game 52 46 ln their second test of the Reserve This years Reserve Basketball team along with Its big brothers the Varsity got oft to a poor start by dropping the first five games Unllke the Varsity however they pulled out of this tall spln and played falrly good ball the remainder of the season They received a blow In mld season when their tallest man Mlke Rooney became lnellglble but they went on to wind up In second place In the S C O and to have an over all record of nlne wlns against elght defeats B tournament the Tlgers were ousted from further partlclpatlon by the defending state champions Columbus East Leading scorers were Jlm Cook with 234 points Dud Morrls with l98 Other scoring records are Jerry Pritchard with l44 Mlke Brown l33 Don Olney lth I26 Blll Glllls with 91 Jerry Rooney with 78 John Wllks with 211 Robln Jones with TO John Pontlous with 8 Roger Bennington with 2 and Walt Herne with none Booster Club Basketball banquet was Wed nesday March T2 In the soclal rooms lt was a great success as usual Paul Bucky Walters former Clrclevllle athlete and now coach at East High In Columbus where his team won state championship laurels last year was Don Dlnk Olney was voted both Most Valu able Player and honorary captain for this year for his enthusiastic team play Dud Morris was awarded a plaque by the Booster Club for being the top foul shooter on the team The large turnout at the banquet Indicated that there IS much Interest In Clrclevllle for basket a aSketbaH Ronald Bennington led the Reserves In scor mg Bennlngton who played guard poured l92 points through the nets for an average of ll 3 a game Dave Greeno who had 148 polnts for an 8 8 average was second Other members of the Reserve team were Sophomores Don Skinner Tom Strawser Tom Elsea Charles Rose Lee Rlsley Blll Barthelmas Carl Martln and Freshmen Elliot Hawkes and Roy Murray . . .
