The Washington Court House Clrclevllle grid warfare was resumed In the following game Some Washington fans were expecting the Blue Lion to devour the Tiger completely But they were disappointed fortunately But for a safety in the first period the game was even all the way and the final score read Washing n C H 9 Circlevllle 7 This was a a fought though clean game and the Tiger de fense agaln showed Its mettle by llmltlng the one lone touchdown and It was scored on a kickoff return and not from scrimmage Not only the game was lost but also an era In Clrclevllle High Schools history was lost forever too It was an era ln which the Red and Black racked up 15 straight SCOL vlc torles and three championships untll the e luctant Tigers stubbornly gave up the throne But king Tiger went down fighting to the last At the Booster Club football banquet bag Bill Gillis was selected Most Valuable Player for his outstanding play at tackle during the season Also at the banquet Jerry Rooney was announced honorary captain for this years team Three boys were selected for the SCOL honor team this year They were Blll Gillis at tackle Charlie Johnson at end and Jerry Rooney at quarterback Dave Coffland was selected on the second team at end and halfbacks Jerry Pritchard and Paul Hlll received honorable mention While the boys are receiving most of the ll et Il be sold here and now ta the coaches deserve great praise for producing the team that they did with what material was at hand Head coach Steve Brudzlnskl and his very capable assistant Tom Bennett have been turning out championship teams In the last three years But when time came that they had to scrape the barrel they did not blame the boys but lust worked all the harder with what they had The trademark of the Circle vllle football team In the last few years has been cooperation which boiled down means that the boys worked together This IS really a great tribute to any coach In Itself for It means that he has molded a team lt has been said that a champion never comes back After losing that first game so horribly to Holy Rosary and losing three regulars which forced several boys to play all the game with no rest they responded like champions lf these boys were not champions on paper at least they were champions In heart l. Varsity Football Although the Tlgers lost two games and tled two out of nlne this year they showed tremen dous splrlt Rlddled by lnlurles early In the year and taking a demorallzlng loss from Columbus Holy Rosary they bounced back to wln five games Red and Black lost the first game to Rosary 6 O but came back to defeat Lancaster 7 0 This game was a prevlew of the ones to follow IH which Clrclevllles rock rubbed defense held nlne opponents to 48 points, less than a touch down a game This game was also a costly one as Bob Turner and Ted Davls, both regular llnemen were lost for the season with broken bones Next the Tigers clashed with Wllmlngton and they were up for this one The Hurricane had been blowing over all opposltlon so far and this was generally conceded to be the game that would make or break Clrclevllle s team this year The Tigers came through beau tlfully with an 18 6 victory Clrclevllle rallled In the last half to trample the Hillsboro lndlans 37 7 Halfback Ted Ray mond was sldellned for the season In this con test with a broken ankle The Tlgers then collided head on with two tough opponents Monroe and St Charles Monroe was downed T9 T3 by a desperation pass In the last few minutes of the game The Carollans from St Charles held the Tlgers to a 7 7 tle In these two games, as In the rest of the games after the Hillsboro encounter the Tigers played without the services of three regulars Greenfield was the next Red and Black threat and they figured to be a tough one, too Greenfield succumbed qulte readily how ever and at the end of the first half the score was 25 O Clrclevllle The final score was 32 O The Westerville game was a relncarnatlon of the Ohlo State MICDIQGD Blizzard Bowl of T950 The game was played In 3 Inches of frozen preclpltatlon which contributed greatly to the result Westerville O Clrclevllle O FIRST ROW Bob Rader Ronald Benmngton Tom Elsea Fred Davis Jerry Pritchard Lloyd Brannon Jerry Anderson SECOND ROW Ted Davis, Paul Hull, Clyde Cook, John Cockrell, Mike Brown, Ted Raymond, Jerry Rooney, George Troutman, Bob Turner THIRD ROW Ronnie Seall, Jim Cook, Dave Coftland, Bull Glllss, Robin Jones, Tom Strawser, Charles Johnson, Larry Hafey FOURTH ROW Mr Steve Brudzunskn, Gary Thomas, Jim Lelsl, Don Sknnner, Make Rooney, Walt Heine, Mr Tom Bennett 9 ' 1 . . . , ' 1 . . . . , . . . 1 1 . , I ' . . . . , u sv . .
