Led by Millard Peck and Fred Mac- Lean, co-captains, the team went through the first seven contests unbeaten. Besides being one of the city leaders in offense, Country Day topped all schools in defense, allowing only twenty-one points. For the greater part of the season, the first team consisted of Add Woodward and George Ran at end, Millard Peck and Ned Doughetty at tackle, Pete Strauss and Bill Schmidt at guard, and Andy Conroy, center. The baekfield included Rusty Reaves at quarterback, Fred MacLean and Jim Giahnestras, half- back, and Steve Schmidt at fullback The offensive attack was equally balanced with the hard running of Schmidt, Giannestras, the speedy, elusive MacLean, and the passing of Reaves, who threw for ten touchdowns. MacLean was second in the city in scoring with one hundred points, a school record. Glory also came to the other co -captain, as Coach David McDaniel termed Peck as the best linesman he had eVer had at Country Day. The season opened in the rain at Maderia with C. D. defeating the home team 21-0. After a 7-7 tie with New Richmond. the Blue got back on the winning track with a 20-0 victory over Batavia. This was followed by three comparatively easy wins against O.M.I.I. Amelia, and Felicity. However, the team was pointing for the next game with Park School, as the victory would get the Tri-State trophy. The boys came through superbly as Country Day defeated its Indianapolis foe 41-7. Despite the cold and the dampness C. D.'s offense functioned well, MacLeen scoring four touchdowns and Schmidt two. An equally important game followed with arch rival Indian Hill, and Country Day, triumphing in this contest 46'0, took home the traditional Indian head adress, which goes each year to the winner. Hopes for the first undefeated team in the school's history were shattered, however, in the last encounter of the season when Milford beat Country Day 7-6. Yet in spite of this sour ending, Coach McDaniel sin- cerely said that this was the finest football team he had ever trained in his many years at Country Day. It was my error to think that the Adler socks which I used to wear years ago were nylon. They were wool mmbl'm'a' will: nylon. Nevertheless it is that small quantity of nylon that makes all the difference in the world tin the wearing quality and the FEELI between Adler socks and the ordinary ones which I can purchase anywhere. After receiving your letter, for a moment I was puzzled. Could it be that these socks I have been seeking existed only in my imagination? tYou see, these Adler socks are getting to be an obsession with meg Perhaps I have been chasing a fata morgana, a mirage; like a medieval aichemist looking for the philosophefs stone or the fountain of youth. I went to my bureau drawert No, I havcngt been dreaming. I still have an ancient pair of Adler socks, faded and mended, but mute evidence that these socks exist. I planned on sending them to you. Then the little frau came to my rescue. nWhatever gave you the idea that these are nylon? she quiriedt She did more than thatt Out of her archives shc produced the enclosed adver- tisement and order formt DonIt ask me where she got it. tShe too has been asking for Adler socks wherever she shopsj Now there can be no more question or doubt. When I get back from my trip West, I may buy a gross to make sure I have an adequate Supply before you decide to dis- continue their manufacture. It seems that some good things are being taken offthc market and inferior goods are taking their place. Very truly yours, L.
