Fraternities Delta Beta The Delta Beta Chapter of the Country Day School was formed in the fall of nineteen fifty- six, after a brea k-way from the old Wyoming-Country Day organization of previous years. Al- though the majority of the membership constitutes Country Day boys. the fraternity is also rep- resented at Terrace Park and Indian Hill Schools. This year the fraternity held its rush party dinner at the residence of 'D.H.' Short, the presi- dent of the chapter. Afterwards, the boys went to Castle Farms for dancing and a show. In the spring, the members volunteered their time to the Heart Fund Drive by preparing kits. A party was given during Easter vacation for the children at the Children's Convalescent Home. There were also numerous fraternity parties held during the year. Country Day members are: Dwight Short, Pres.; Jack Schmidlapp, Sec.; Donald High- lands, Treas.; Ned Dougherty, Corr. Sec.; Rick Arms; Pete Strauss; Rick Lazarus; Will Heathcote; George Ran; Add Woodward; and Pieter Visser. B. O. A. This past year was a highly successful one for the B.O.A . Fraternity at Country Day and Indian Hill Schools. The year sta rted with fifteen active members, and with the addition of twelve pledges the fraternity was the biggest it has been in recent years. The pledging season started with the rush party on October 27. A dinner was held at Piero Melchiorri's and addi- tional entertainment followed. Besides these events, there were numberous parties all during the sea son. Activities ended with a successful party following graduation- a suitable ending for one of B.O.A.'s best years. Country Day members of the B.O.A. Fraternity are: Pete Miller, Pres.; Tony Strauss and Chuck Gowl, Vice Pres.; Tom Hatfield, Treas.; Jim Johnson, Sec.; Tom Deupree, Millard Peck. Fred MacLean, Charles Moore, Gren Gooder, Jim Coates, Piero Melchiorri, Dick Mash- bum, Andy Conroy, Jim Giannestras, Rusty Reeves, Toby Tyler, Rick Wagner. R. T. Or being hated don't give way to hating, And yet don't look to good, not talk too wise; If you can dream -- and not make dreams your master; If you can think -- and not make thoughts your aim. If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same: If you can beat to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, 01' watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it in one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings, And never breathe a word about your loss: If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold one when their is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: Hold on! If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings -- not lose the common touch, If neither foes not loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much- If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And -- which is more -- you'll be a Man, mv son! -- Rudyard Kipling A Friend 'x i i , I j -.-..m.LL J... kAm..4 -g Ah... u .u, .1...ua. 4.84.3.4 nvbaa A .nL-k41.4
