VVot'ds and Music by RALPH LYFORD Ralph Lyford, head of the Department Of Opera, Conservatory Of Music, managing director of the Cincinnati Summer Opera Company, has just received the silver David Bispham memnrial medal, which has been awarded him by the American Opera Society of Chicago, 111., for his opera, Wfastle Agra- zant , which will he performed in Cincinnati. This medal has been awarded but four times. Mr. Lyford is the third to receive it, having been chosen with Frank Patterson, who composed the American opera, The Echw, for the annual award. The Cincinnati American Opera Foundation working with the National Federation of Music Clubs operating through the personality of Mrs. Edgar Stillman-Kelley, has raised a Guarantee Fund of $1,200.00 to cover the budget for two initial performances of gCastle Agrazant . Such sumptuous performances as those contemplated have been hitherto unheard of'uutside the twu great opera houses, and will for the first time give an adequate angle from which to judge the real merits of a new Ameri- can opera.
