ACTIVITIES A ship's primary task is always to accomplish it's mission through people. Many times the task to be performed is long and arduous with little time for rest and relaxation. The brief periods of leisure are usually filled with those events that best develop a 'spirit of unity and cooper- ation among the crew. The Cimarron has always endeavored to supply it's men with a wide range of activities during the idle hours. Sporting events such as softball, bowling, golf, swimming, and skeet shooting abound. There is a keen rivalry between depart- ments and divisions, and a challenge is never left unanswered. Of course, movie call is always popular and there is an ., L. ..,. Af,4..,,,,.......- , ..., ., ... .,. I .... 1. . NHL,,,.,..,,,,,,,t,,...,.....,,,,,.,-...,v- I i 1 1 occasional event such as the capture of a rare sea bat to spark the interest of the crew. Activities also includes such events as inspections and advancement in rate. We must also by necessity include the miscellaneous category-the time spent with a good book, writing letters to loved ones, shooting the bull, and general loafing. Everyone needs a certain amount of leisure activity, a brief period away f1nOIf1 the worry and tension of his job. The Cimarron sailor tries to use this time to best advantage so that he might capably perform his demanding tasks in the com- pletion of the vital mission of our modern Navy.
