The storekeepers stock, catalog, order, and issue over 20,000 items-from packing grease to pencils-needed to service the ship. Ship's servicemen run the ship's stores, vending machines, laundry, and barber shop. Each year several thousand dollars is turned over to the Welfare and Recreation Fund from the profits generated by the ship's stores. Commissarymen provide the ships company with three well balanced meals each day. Disbursing clerks maintain pay accounts for each man on the ship and during the cruise will pay out over a quarter of a million inpay rolls. Stewards are responsible for maintaining the Officers staterooms and preparing and serving meals in the Officers Wardroom, These five ratings function together as the Supply Department to provide the ship and her crew with the everyday necessities needed to make life more comfortable and pleasant aboard ship.
