The Deck Departmentis responsible for all topside spaces and gear on the ship. This responsibility increases in importance on an oiler, which maintains fueling rigs and transfer stations at various locations. On the Cimarron the Deck Department is divided into three divisions: First Division maintains the forward part of the ship, These men service and operate such equip- 20 ment as the ground tackle, motor whale boat, and utility boat. Second Division is responsi- ble for the after part of the ship, maintaining the Captain's Gig, Motor Launch, and three replenishment stations. Fox Division is the gunnery and fire control division. Their task is to guard the safety of our ship and men by maintaining our five inch mounts in sure fire working condition. Aside from thier primary duties, the men of the Deck Department fulfill avariety of collateral tasks, the most important of these being bridge and sentry watCheS- There is a tremendous amount of Cimarron heritage and tradition to be maintained by these men ofthe sea. As we listen once more to the shrill pipe of the Bos'n's whistle, We know with certainity that these high standards are being upheld.
