Perhaps through the pages of this volume of The Globe , we can portray to others and keep for ourselves' some of our cherished memo ' ear ut simply as apicture of s happy y ries. We present it, not as a great literary product. b in Churchville High School. Augusta Street Staunton, Virginia Through the years since 1955, accounts of accomplishments of thirty-one noted persons have appeared in various newspapers, newsreels, and on tele- visions throughout the nation. These persons have given most of the credit for their success to the school from which they were graduated-Churchville High School located in Church- ville, Virginia. A common collection of these events follow: Mary Frances Beck has been pursuing her studies in music at the University of Virginia. After finishing her work there she will become head of the music department at Churchville Consolidated High School. After completing a secretarial course at Dunsmore Business College, Peggy Collins holds a position at the American Razor Company. Frances Curry, a traveling sales lady for Armstrong's Hardware Company, has just returned from a business trip to the South Sea Islands. Maudie DeVore has been initiated as new cheerleader for the Hunchbacks of Notre Dame. We don't think her only interest is cheerleading, maybe it's one of those handsome football players. Norma Lee Eagle, a graduate of Bridgewater College and an accomplished pianist, has established a kindergarten in Staunton. Estella Fink received her degree in nursing from the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Dawn Fullen is now employed as Robert Wagner's private secretary in Hollywood, California. From recent reports we are not so sure which one should be the private secretary. Dorothy Gilmer, a stewardess for Pan American Airlines, has received an award for being the outstanding stewardess of the year 1965. Next weekin Washington, D.C., at the National Art Gallery one of Geraldine Richard's and also another one of Virginia Gilmer's famous paintings will be put on display. Roy Graham has just returned from an elephant hunt in India. We hear he has become one of the greatest game hunters in America. Herbert Griffin has won the American Farmer Award for being an out- standing farmer and citizen. Rosalie Kesner recently purchased the New York Dress Shop, Edith Hamilton, a model, is working for her. They saybusinessisincreasing rapidly. Sue Hartman, a teacher at Waynesboro High School, just returned from a vacation in Florida. Teachers must really be making money these days. viii- ,-- ,,- .- fxfxw ,mi ,ll --L ,l -,-:,.f ni 'lm L cfs!! ,m-.- 61115 'raplzccy J X -a. Rf .ER g 5' ifA?iSi H' f' 11, la. Mrs. Jerry Horn, the former Miss Patricia Shinabery, has gone to New Jersey to be with her husband. Jerry has been serving as the Army's number one yardbird for the past five years. Boyd Loshjust returned from Oregon where he attended the Lumberman's Convention. He maintains the biggest lumber company in Augusta County Peggy Moore, a well-known comedienne is appearing on a new series of T.V. shows which are sponsored by Maxwell House Coffee. After graduating from Bridgewater College, Rita Rae Mullenax is teaching private piano lessons. The last time I saw her, she was still riding around in a new Plymouth. Johnny Nichols, alieutenant in the army, is stationed in Japan. We under- stand he is going to make a career out of the army. Vickie Peyton has been selected as coach for the Minneapolis Lakers. Vickie says he owes his success to his former coach, Mr. Louis Elia. While watching the Herb Shriner program on T.V., whom should I see but Edith Phillips advertising Old Gold Cigarettes . Shirley Sandy is now manager of Newberry's Dime Store in Staunton, Virginia. Did you read ofthe new addition to Staunton's Westover Drive ? Mrs. Ervin Jordan, the former Peggy Seal, has a lovely home there and lives happily with her husband and children. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Knott are receiving congratulations on the arrival of twins. Mrs. Knott is the former Pauline Shifflett. Critics at the Metropolitan Opera Company voted Peggy Siron the most talented soprano of the year. Peggy has won many awards during the year and her popularity is growing rapidly. Have you been caught by the new policewoman yet ? She is our own Claudine Southard. We hear she has really been taming them down. Dr. Harry Vaught was sued for breaking one of his patient's jaws. This makes his sixth, but we understand he is doing well with his dental practice in Churchville. Did you read the article in The Washington Post about Eunice Williams 7 She has become leading typist on the staff of The Washington Post. S ,4 ' Q... just Araund Selma! Luther felt the same way towards Mrs. McLean and also found his 8 E sixteen year old daughter a disadvantage to his marriage. The two teenagers were forced to d L h th ht the dress in ridiculous costumes to appear younger. Both Mrs. McLean an ut er oug y marr in into money but each found that the other was not wealthy. The Junior class will present for their play, Monkey Business written by Louise Isom and Felicia Metcalfe. All the action takes place in the cluttered living room. Miss Deborah is the head of the family. She rules her sister, Alice, and their niece, Laura. Laura is a pretty young girl who is not popular because she is not allowed to entertain callers or go out herself. To help with the finances Miss Deborah takes in a paying guest . His name is Professor Graeb and he is en- gages in a mysterious sort of experimentin the attic. Miss Deborah does not know he is engaged in courting Miss Alice. Penelope, the daughterof the black sheep of the Streight family comes to visit. She opens the house to all the young people. Laura blossoms out and becomes a happy young girl. Even Miss Deborah falls under Penny's charm. Miss Abigail Simpson, the old maid next door, cannot help prying into things. She claims that the Professor leaves the house every night and meets Penny. Butitis really Alice in Penny's red coat and scarf. She says that Penny and the Professor knew each other in Europe and are spys. Miss Deborah does not believe this but when the Professor will not tell her what his work is, she is suspicious. But Penny proves that she is really the niece they thought she wasn't. Miss Deborah asks her to clean the house while she is visiting a sick friend. Penny gets the gang, and do they clean! Miss Deborah hard- ly recognizes the place. The Professor and Alice plan to elope. Half Pint, Penny's monkey, disappears and the Professor's experiment is found out. Penny gets hold of it and aims it at the household members. This play is a real comedy, keeping the audience in stitches. This page is sponsored by: STAUNTON GROCERY SMITH TRANSFER CORP. 201 W.
