Class History The class of '53 entered High School inSeptember 1949 with Mr. Jack Miller as our home room teacher. We elected the following officers: President, Ronald Hevener, Vice-President, Ruby Jean Altizer, Secretary, Jimmy Taliaferrog and Treasurer, Richard East. Our S. C. A. representatives were Julie Bruening and Ronald Hevener. We elected Ruby J. Altizer and Lacy Hevener as our Honor Court representatives. Dur- ing the Freshman year we participated in many activities and adjusted to high school life. We passed on to our Sophomore year with Miss Edythe Richcreek as our home room teacher. For our officers, we chose as President, Ronald Hevener, Vice- President, Jim Taliaferrog Secretary, Richard Eastg and Treasurer, Ramona Burgandine. The S. C.A. representatives were Carolyn Armstrong and Ronald Hevener, and, also, Caro- lyn, along with Lacy Hevener, was our representative to the Honor Court. In the spring of our Sophomore year, we had a class picnic at Gypsy Hill Park and afterwards went to a movie. We all were proud to see Ramona Burgandine and Jim Taliaferro crowned King and Queen at the Halloween Party. We entered the.Junior class with Miss Joyce Hoffman as our home room teacher. The class officers were: President, Carolyn Armstrong, Vice-President, Jim Talia- ferrog Secretary, Ramona Burgandineg Treasurer, Shirley Shefferg and Reporter, Donald Byrd. Our Honor Court representatives were Eunice Graham and Lacy Hevener and representatives to the S. C. A. were Carolyn Armstrong and Ronald Hevener. We were proud that the President of the S. C. A. , Richard East, and the Judge of the Honor Court, Ronald Hevener, were members of the Junior class. During our Junior year we received our graduating rings. Our class again won the King and Queen contest. Those crowned were Eunice Graham and Lacy Hevener. In December we had a wiener roast in the cabin at Lone Fountain. A great highlight of the year was our Junior play, Toby Helps Out. The three act comedy was presented on April 18, 1952 under the direction of Miss Hoffman. Jim Taliaferro, as Toby, played the leading role. During May we entertained the members of the Senior Class with a hayride to the Sand farm. September 5, 1952, eleven boys and eleven girls assembled in the Senior room, and we were very happy to find Miss Hoffman as our sponsor. Class officers were: Presi- dent, Ronald Hevener, Vice-President, Lacy Hevenerg Secretary, Carolyn Armstrong, Treasurer, Ramona Burgandineg and Reporter, Ruby J. Altizer. Mildred Sandy was elected as our S. C. A. representative. Our Honor Court representatives were Shirley Huffer and Jim Taliaferro. Members of the Senior Class who held offices in the S. C. A, were: President, Ronald Hevener, Secretary, Shirley Hufferg Treasurer, Jim Talia- ferro, and Sergeant-at-Arms, Odell Huffer. We chose as our class flower the Sweet Pea and for our colors, Light Blue and White. The Motto is: Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today. , Friday night, November 14, 1952, the Senior Class presented its very successful play, Me and My Shadow. We were grateful to Miss Hoffman for directing our play. In December, one of our former class members, Donald Byrd came back to school to graduate with us making a total of twenty-three members. I, Ramona Burgandine, will my love for a green Buick and the driver to Juanita Hanger. I, Eunice Graham, will my ability to stick to one boy friend to Shirley Wagner. I, Shirley Huffer, will my basketball suit, No. 34, to Connie Claytor. I, Shirley Sheffer, will my love for tall, dark, handsome men to Corean Arm- strong. I, Doris Siron, will my love for Lazy Acres to Peggy Seal. I, Page Southard, will my love for sailors to Betty Bussard. 1, Josephine Lange, will my love for Skyline Drive to Vera Graham. I, Mildred Sandy, will my quiet manners to Shirley Graham. I, Virgil Armstrong, will my ability for pestering Paul to Joe Hevener. I, Paul Botkin, will my job as bus duty helper to anyone fool enough to take it. I, Donnie Byrd, will my desk in the back of the room at the Chemistry Lab, to Billy Fink and hope the Junior girls don't get wet. I, Lacy Hevener, will my love for being late to Joe Taliaferro. I, Ronnie Hevener, will my job as president of the Senior Class to Patsy Moyers. I, Odell Huffer, will my usefulness for being tall on the basketball team to Allen Lambert. I, Tommy Griffen, will my love for Senior girls to Norman Robinson. I, Curtis Wimer, will my ability to argue with. the teachers to Sarah Goodman. I, Bobby Lessely, will my black wavey hair to Franklin Jackson. I, Leland Buzzard, will my ability to skip classes and go to town to Delbert Caps. I, Julian White, will my handsome features to anyone who needs them. l, Jim Taliaferro, will my ability to get along with the girls to Harry Vaught. To the Juniors, we do will our two erasers, in hopes that the teachers can keep trace of them during the free periods. To the Sophomores, we do will our quiet manners and good behavior.
