Mr. Way served on the board for twelve years, six years of which he acted as president of the board. It is with deep felt pleasure that we take this opportunity to express our thanks to Mr, Way and to all present, and former board members who donate their experience, energies, and talents for the betterment of Church- ville-Chili Central School. 2 In Appreciation MRS, SNYDER For her untiring help on the yearbook staff and a sincere interest in each of us, we the class of '57 wish to show our deepest appreciation to Mrs, Snyder. 3 earbook Edutors and Advusers FIRST ROW: D. By next September it will be filled to capacity, This past summer' saw a proposition to add to the present high school building and to start a new elementary school on the Chestnut Ridge Site, passed by a majority of record vote of the people of ,the district. As this is written fNovember 20, 19565 the board of eilucation is waiting for some 7LAlbany decisions before taking the next step. ,, Z One thing is very certain: the end of our needs for increased housing is not yet sight. Our school census for 1956 shows a 1470 increase C283 childrenj over that of 1955. Qbur en- rollment mayffibe expected to continue to increase by at least 100 pupils per year for the next 5 several yea rsh. 2 Thisf situation is full of serious significance for the voters and taxpayers of our district but the ones most directly concerned are the children who will be affected by the sub-standard measures we will be forced to adopt before our educational obligations are properly met. ff ,, N it X E E Y: mmm 6 M91 5' Y 5 LE! Mr, Gould, who was taken seriously ill early in the school year was not able to be present when the picture was taken, Of the many offices which American citizens are called to fill, school- board membership is one of the most important, because the policies which they formulate determines how well or how poorly the children of a given district will be cared for from the standpoint of education. Pure democracy is still in effect at the school district level, and in no other political area do the people, at large take such an active interest. Our board members who serve without remuneration of any kind should have the whole-hearted support of our people. After this acclimation, our leader, Larry Gruendike, was quickly chosen. He guided us through our first turbulent year. Upon entering our Sophomore year as old pros and thankful that our first step toward graduation was behind us. Dick Zorn was elected President, a.nd along with the cooperation of every member of the class we achieved our one main goal, the Senior Trip. Early in the fall of 1955, our ,Ttmior class again chose Dick Zorn as Class President. Baked food sales, dances, and the sale of salt water taffy helped add to our evergorwing treasury. With a feeling of sadness we entered the halls of C.C.C.S. for the last time, determined to make this year the best ever, Dick Zorn was elected president, Dave Pederson, Vice-Presi- dent, J' ack Brodie, Secretary and Priscille Tallman, Treasurer. Our class undertook a magazine sale to embellish the treasury and this business venture was a great success, the treasury was well embellished by then. As this project was of great importance and our fabulous high-pressure, low-pressure and otherwise pressured salesman, whichever the case may be, contributed so much that it is with great pleasure that we build the theme of this yearbook around magazines. Our play, Boys About Bobbettef' came off with abang on November 16 and 17. Then came the long awaited Washington Trip where the money accumulated over the years was spent in six daysl The month of ,T une and Graduation soon arrived. Our days at C,C,C.S. are over but the memories will live in our hearts forever. and Advisers SECOND ROW: D. Zorn, J. Prophecy We are seated at a table in the little Parisian sidewalk Cafe de la Reunion. The day is in J une, 1967, just a decade after that sorrowful day of graduation of the Class of 1957 at Church- ville-Chili Central School, back in the states, We've been wondering just what has happened to all of them. But what's this, who was that who just walked in and insulted the head waiter? Why it's Donna Trusler, now a women's athletic instructor and Olympic Champion. And, look there's Big Dick Lewis trailing meekly after her, acting as her manager. And this trio, who just sat down with their boots on, could be none other than Malcolm Blowers, Larry Gruendike and Dennis Crammer, lumberjacks from the woods of Quebec. Mon Dieu, can it be! That ruffian claiming to be Attila the Hun, and his three henchman, all stomping up and down on the tables must be Dick Zorn, Don Jones, Dick Staub and Paul Daugherty. They're all with the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Paris. But they're being shouted down by a crowd of squealing young women who have come in and ordered one yogurt with ten straws, Dolores Armison, Sheila Dowdell, Joan Dowdell, Eleanor Pimm, Shirley Fletcher, Janet Orser, Edith Marion, Gert King, Eleanor Graf, and Nancy Shur, all of whom are successful French stenographers and secretaries. Egads, mon cher, a thunderous roar as six steaming Fiats just screeched to a tire-blister- ing stop outside. Sure enough, it's those six ex-winners of the Grand Prix, Spike Rudgers, Butch Gruendike, Bill Alexander, Bill Statt, Ken Hopson, and Jack Brodie. Now everyone is besieging a bearded wrestler who has just won the title of Mr. Universe. Ah, it's Harold Martin, manufacturer of blue suede shoes in the Bordeaux district, and three workers with blue-stained feet in tow, Dave Pederson, RonZorn and Nelson Adams. Look who has arrived to greet their former classmates, the eternally effervescent geni from Aesthetics Anonymous, J. P, McCarthy 8a his assistants, Noreen Staines, Evelyn Swan- ton, Faith Reinhold, Janet Roushey, and Lorraine Kent! No, sirs, we don't mix chocolate-covered caviar with pate de foie gras. We were addressing Bill Harkness and Bill Corlett, the two gourmets on our left who are trying to show Missy Craig and Gail Miller that they know their way around France. We also see Julie Egbert and Pricilla Tallman who are now perfume experts for Chanel and are reputed to be in business selling scent sense to ladies with cents to spend. Ughh, shades of Voltaire, we were just pushed from behind by a Portsche. Oh, the two apologetic faces in the windows are those of Larry McClure, Charles Dodson, and Cliff Fleming. They have been pioneering in the field of inter-stellarizing stock cars for space speeds. Your see, we have space travel now, thanks to George Leone, science writer, who showed the world that gravity exists only in the mind, and so started the interplanetary movement. Well, that's everybody, and -- but no, there come Abby Lewis, Caroline Crandall, Flora Bennet, Phyllis Del Fave and Jean Morgan who look as if they're modeling something. Oh, no, they're cigarette girls in the employ of the Cafe de la Reunion, and Frank Collard. Guess everyone is here, so we can start our little rendezvous in memory of the Class of 1957. This soccer team had 6 Seniors, 4 Juniors, and 1 Freshman on the starting 11. The team was alSO aided, all the way, by very strong bench strength. A most unfortunate accident occured halfway through the season, when Dick Staub, one of the fullbacks, broke his leg while kicking the ball. Ron Zorn also had a slight crack in his leg, resulting from being kicked while in action, in front of Alfred-Almond's goal. Most of all our sincerest appreciation to our advisor, Mrs. Snyder, who with the help of a former advisor, Mrs. Connors, gave of her time and effort in helping to solve the many problems that confronted us. To help carry the financial burden of producing a yearbook, surrounding towns were scoured for ads. This job was efficiently executed by the Ad Staff under the guidance of Miss Karniscky and Bill Alexander, Dave Pederson and his Sports Staff worked long hours on the new and unique layouts that give variety to our Sports Section. The members of the Literary Staff put their heads together along with editor, J' anet Roushey, and came up with all the clever sayings and information found in this Crest. The Art Staff under Ardis Matthews is responsible for all art work shown, not only within the pages but also the cover, Joe McCarthy, Gail Miller and the Photography Staff were responsible for the scheduling of pictures and the names which appear beneath each one. After the names had been placed under the various pictures Dolores Armison and her typists went to work. Their work, although often nerve-wracking greatly aided production Last but certainly not least our thanks to Bob Heffer a.nd his Publicity Staff who encouraged you to buy the book you are now reading. We owe a special debt of gratitude to the publishers of the magazines whose covers appear throughout this book, Without their cooperation our theme would not have been possible. 1 Best of luck to the Editors of the '58 Crest. Sincerely, pak flown Julie Egbert Dick Zorn Editors 90 ' ,,1,. . , . ' is- 3 W , .,,. -' , .Ttw ' ' ' 1 - . , ' L-w '. ,, , :V H x f ,, x.- . w., , , N, .
