Our theme this year is cameras and the art of photography. We decided upon this theme because of the great advancements which have been made recently in the field of photography. The uses of photography are very unique and can illustrate many purposes. 'O .7 As long as man has inhabited the earth he has known light. It was the presence of light which enabled him to see the things around him, By light, man could enjoy the beauty of his home. Through the centuries man has tried to capture these light pictures and preserve them. Great artists took up brushes and with paint tried tocreatean exact and lasting image. The things of nature are so involved that this was impossible to do. Later, as man noticed that his exact reflexion was caught by water and reflected back he wanted to use this idea in the reproduction of a lasting image. It was in the 17th Century when the English scientist Thomas Wedgewood made photographic copies of paintings on glass by exposing paper, coated with silver chloride, to light under the glass paintings. The pictures did not endure and the early scientists decided that a fixation was needed to preserve the outline of the image. An English inventor, William Henry Fox Talbot used a strong solution of ordinary tablesalt for this purpose. For many years almost all photo- graphic attention was directed upon film and the photographic image. The camera of early days was nothing more than the pinhole camera which children have made for many years. The modern camera consists mainly of a box, a lens, and a device for holding plates and film. The simplest form of the modern camera is the box camera, although today the average photographer uses the folding camera because of its compactability and its variable lens. Many cameras are equipped to use a flash attachment, which enables pictures to be taken in total darkness. The studio or professional camera enables the photographer to vary the distance between lens and Elm. This type of camera was used in creating this yearbook. The individual pictures of the rtembers of the Senior Class were made possible because of this device which enables the distance between lens and film to be varied. This device makes possible photographs which in the photographic business are called close-ups , We have used photographs to demonstrate our ' activities and to express the ideas of a group or of groups. In your many years to come, may weall look back to this yearbook 1 and see these pictures. When memory is misled by many years these pictures will recall our high schooldays and our many happy memories. .l xy X-.1 :T 6
