This past year has seen the beginning of the actual construction of the new 24 room elementary school on the Fairbanks road site. This has meant a great deal of extra work for the Board, but at the same time the members have taken a great deal of pleasure in seeing the definite result of their planning finally take shape. The new building is promised for September occupancy. Church- ville-Chili District finds itself in the same situation as most of the districts in New York State that lie within commuting dis- tance of a large city, New houses continue to be built in our area which provide homes for the new children who continue to increase our enrollment each year. It begins to appear that the new building on Fairbanks Road is only the first step in solving the school space problem of the district. However, so long as con- scientious, responsible citizens will consent to serve on the Board of Education, we feel confident that our American way will continue to provide us with satisfactory schools. 9 ff ff!! ff' 5 yz44y,?y W Off tv 231 QQ ,f H ,. .0 ' mf 151.152, . 43,2 , xv f 'f MR. dba. MI. Berle, a member of the Board of Education since 1926 truly deserves the acknowledge- ment of his wonderful work. In 1926 when he first became a board member there were five men on the Board, a school principal and sixteen teachers. The Board met once a month and their most difficult task was appointing one teacher out of fifteen to sixteen applicants. Mr. Berle was President of the Board in 1938, the year our high school was dedicated. The Board's problems were concentrated mostly on the new Churchville High School. One of the changes was that there no longer was a surplus of teachers. Time moved very quickly and soon there was a great need for another school. After a long, but successful struggle, the project passed, thus making it possible for the building of our new elementary school. So to you, Mr. Berle, we think everyone should join with us and together thank you for a job well done in your many years on the Board of Education. 8
