03'Eii56 OF M151 N I A IV. SZUTZNZ During the year I am spending in the United States, many students are probably thinking about the actual reason of my coming over to America. Therefore, I would like to tell you more about the organization that sponsored me: lt is the American Field Service. The American Field Service International Scholarship is an open door which leads to under- standing and friendship among the people of the world. It brings students from abroad to attend American High Schools for a school year of study and experience, and during the summer sends American teen-agers abroad to live with families. In this way future citi- zens of the world learn to respect the similarities and differences of those who may live in different countries, but whose dreams and efforts are directed toward a single goal of a peaceful and useful life. The American Field Service International Scholarship could not carry on its program alone. Schools waive tuition and offer fees. Families willingly enlarge their family circles and welcome students into their homes. Communities generously pool their resources to sponsor students in their schools, and the general public contributes funds. All these make it possible for AFSIS to swing wide the open door to a friendlier world. It is not so long ago, when we realized the evils of the propaganda of war. People start to hate each other and don't know why, just because they meet each other as foes in war. May God help us to avoid a third war, which might destroy millions of people because of its many technical developments. The ancient Aryan people already knew by their statement: Walk together, talk together, O ye Peoples of the Earth, Then shall ye know one another and have Peace. That peace is only in this way accessible. During the year I have been allowed to get acquainted with the American people, ll don't want to fish for compliments, which are supposed to make you happy, butj I really can say that I have never met so many nice and thoughtful people in my life, as I have in the United States. Many people and students became to me so dear that the leaving of America CChurchvillej is a real'hatd one for me. It will probably be the highlight of my whole life that I was able to stay for one year in Churchville. Therefore, I would like to thank all the wonderful teachers and students who have made this year a real pleasure to me. I don't know how to thank you for all the things you did for me. The only thing I can do is to tell in Germany about my experiences in the United States and about the kind people, in order to make their acquaintance with the real Americans, not with the ones they saw only in war in form of bombers above the cities of Germany. I am sure that I will succeed in helping to bring a further progress in friendship between America and Germany. May God help me to do my small part right, in obtaining a real world peace, which can- not be threatened by any power in the world. K f I 28
