As our junior and Senior Class advisor, Miss Bergin has been most understanding and sincere in all matters concerning us. ln dedicating this yesrboolr to you, we hope to show our heartfelt thanks for your un- tiring efforts to each of us. 'TN Mr. Flint In appreciation of the able guidance lent us in our scholastic effort, we sincerely dedicate our 1954 edition of the yearbook to Mr. Flint. We will never forget his dynamic personality which not only greatly aided us in our study of mathematics, but in personal endeavors as well. Guiding us in our Freshman year, he willingly lent us his sage knowledge of past ex- perience in assisting us in the first step of our journey through high school, a large part of the success of which we owe to him. We hope that with this dedication we can help repay, at least in some small way, the Fl' t and help to fix us in his memory as he always shall remain great debt we owe to Mr. in in ours. This group of nine men, elected by the voters of the district, has been of service both to the students of the school and the community in general. Their job has been a tremendous one this year, since they have been faced with the solution of our building need. However, on October 16th a proposition calling for the purchase of two sites and the erection of a 24 room elementary building won approval by the voters. Since that time, the board has been occupied with the purchase of these sites, preparing plans for the new building, and getting con- struction started. It is hoped and expected that some of the new building,at least, will be ready for occupancy in the fall of 1955. 9 ' wmg 4th Row, L. to R.: Mr. Drumheller, Mrs. Ratigan, Mrs. Schultz, Mrs. Stein, Miss Miller, Miss Ratignn, Mrs. Morris, Mr. Flint. 3rd Row: Mr. Kreiser, Mr. Botash, Mr. Van Lsre, Mrs. Root, Mrs. Knapp, Mrs. Kujsla Mr. Msxson, Mr. Taylor. 2nd Row: Mrs. Vsil, Mrs. Hiclrox, Miss Bergin Mrs Ds cock Miss Welch Miss Redfern Mrs Kirb Mr Rocwerl . y . y . M H, a As we started the first voyage through our high school years, under the leadership of Mr. Flint, we elected as officers: Don Collinge, preaidentg Paul Lewis, vice-president: and Dick Eggleston took over our records and finances. Our representatives to our ship council were Donna Mae Boughner and Martin Abbert. We sponsored the movie Chicken Every Simd.ay . All too soon our voyage was over. Out to sea again, under the supervision of our co-captains Miss Welch and Mrs. Harter, we elected john Daycock as president, Dorothy Leibeck as vicepresident, Gail DeBerger as secretary, while Dick Eggle- ston again took over our finances. We sponsored an exciting St. Patrick's Day Dance and had several parties. We ended up on shore with a picnic at Hamlin Beach State Park which successfully closed our second voyage. Our crew again left land, as Miss Bergin and Miss Welch took over the helm. We chose as president, Mary Ann Geraceg vice-president, Dick Rush, secretary, Paul Lewis, and Paul Milley- as treasurer. Our class rings were shipped to us by mid-season. Next in line was our dance The Turkey-Trot and then came the movie Mother Was A Freshman. On deck we had a coronation ball and fun was had by all. In our final and most rewarding voyage of our years, we pushed off shore under the guidance of Miss Bergin. On this voyage Paul Milley took over as president, Erich Steiner as vice-president, Gail DeBerger as secretary and Teddy Hoff as treasurer. Our movie Good Humor Man thrilled the crowds as did the Fall Fling , our dance. In our last year on board we are looking forward to the Senior Ball, and last but not least the time when we must leave our dear old ship C. Captain Bergin listened excitedly while the parrot, gazing into the horizon, looked back upon her Class of '5,l. SZUTZNZ During the year I am spending in the United States, many students are probably thinking about the actual reason of my coming over to America. Therefore, I would like to tell you more about the organization that sponsored me: lt is the American Field Service. The American Field Service International Scholarship is an open door which leads to under- standing and friendship among the people of the world. It brings students from abroad to attend American High Schools for a school year of study and experience, and during the summer sends American teen-agers abroad to live with families. In this way future citi- zens of the world learn to respect the similarities and differences of those who may live in different countries, but whose dreams and efforts are directed toward a single goal of a peaceful and useful life. The American Field Service International Scholarship could not carry on its program alone. Schools waive tuition and offer fees. Families willingly enlarge their family circles and welcome students into their homes. Communities generously pool their resources to sponsor students in their schools, and the general public contributes funds. All these make it possible for AFSIS to swing wide the open door to a friendlier world. It is not so long ago, when we realized the evils of the propaganda of war. People start to hate each other and don't know why, just because they meet each other as foes in war. May God help us to avoid a third war, which might destroy millions of people because of its many technical developments. The ancient Aryan people already knew by their statement: Walk together, talk together, O ye Peoples of the Earth, Then shall ye know one another and have Peace. That peace is only in this way accessible. During the year I have been allowed to get acquainted with the American people, ll don't want to fish for compliments, which are supposed to make you happy, butj I really can say that I have never met so many nice and thoughtful people in my life, as I have in the United States. Many people and students became to me so dear that the leaving of America CChurchvillej is a real'hatd one for me. It will probably be the highlight of my whole life that I was able to stay for one year in Churchville. Therefore, I would like to thank all the wonderful teachers and students who have made this year a real pleasure to me. I don't know how to thank you for all the things you did for me. The only thing I can do is to tell in Germany about my experiences in the United States and about the kind people, in order to make their acquaintance with the real Americans, not with the ones they saw only in war in form of bombers above the cities of Germany. I am sure that I will succeed in helping to bring a further progress in friendship between America and Germany. May God help me to do my small part right, in obtaining a real world peace, which can- not be threatened by any power in the world. K f I 28 C v 5, JZ! . They call this Modern Education? Our Sister Ships located in the Churchville-Chili Districts are looking forward to the time when they will move into new quarters and be one big happy crew. I-'or the time being each ship, under expert Captainship, is steering toward great fields of learning knowing that soon they will be secure in a new port with ship shape conditions. The Yearbook Staff sincerely hopes that they will no longer have to serve in the galley of outlying districts, but will soon be promoted to a Captain's Quarters complete with modern conveniences which will better facilitate their future education. 58 X I 24,1 I X AAA,- if X :bil-sam , l Z ,gx X .,v- is .2 .I u, CD 1 Mfvtn-1' '40-A-'uf N-AAA! x'V1A.1 N-'iv'-4.41 M1 .fffp J an M.. The editors wish to extend their appreciation to their able advisers, Mrs. Connors and Mrs. Root, for their untiring efforts which they so generously contributed, and without which this book could not possibly have been completed. The excellent art work is due to the efforts of our exceptionally capable art staff, whose many hours of hard work contributed so much to the appearance of this yearbook. Our sincere thanks are extended to the Literary Staff, who, we feel also did a marvelous job in the literary field. To help carry the financial burden of producing a yearbook, advertising must, of course, be .sold. This job was ably executed by our very efficient advertising staff. The publicity, which helped encourage you to purchase the book you are now reading, was solicited by the Publicity Staff which also deserves a great deal of credit for a job well done. The small but able Photography Staff,we feel, did a super job of producing such wonder- ful pictures. All copy in the book was typed by the Typing Staff whose many hours of tiresome work with few errors greatly aided us in meeting our deadline. Results of games were obtained by our Sports Staff who was always ready to lend a hand. The members of the respective staffs are: ART STAFF:-jim Coulson, art editorg other members are Lois Stiles, Dick Beswick, Ann Daugherty. LITERARY STAFF:-Pat Lins, literary editor, others are Darryl Rusk, Dick Rush, Vickie Pringle, Ann Schur, Don Osbome. ADVERTISING STAFF:-Dorothy Leibeck, managerg others are Roxann Fellows, Virginia Bums, Dick Eggleston, john Daycock, Ben Daycock, Janet Stuart, Katherine Hoehn. PUBLICITY STAFF:-Shirley Adams, Doris Carmer, Geraldine Bound, Donna Darrow. PHOTOGRAPHY STAFF:-Ted Hoff, Henry Snyder, David Huff. TYPING STAFF: -Gail DeBerger, Marilyn Adams, Carolyn Meister, Dorothy Embling. SPORTS STAF F:-Addie jackson, Bill Murphy, john O'Brien. Once more we say Thanks to each of you who made it possible for us to produce this '54 Crest.
