I can say that because of my capable associates, and our advisors, Mrs. Connors and Mrs. Root, who aided us tremendously. Sandra Sage, Art Editor, and Jim Coulson, her Junior assistant, share the honors for producing such attractive art work. Nellie Howe and her staff took over the literary work and with pencil markings by Mrs. Knapp, I feel they did a bang-up job. Mary Ann Kendrot escorted our yearbook photographer from school to school in the districts, and Elmer Cummings aided in the photography ordeal here at Churchville. We really went over the top on ads this year, and our hats are off to Bucky Girven who headed this staff. Our thanks go also to John McKenzie of the Junior class who worked for our interests. Fritz Hoehn did a wonderful job as Sports Editor. I commend the Typing staff, headed by Nancy Johnson, and Doris Roach, Assistant Editor, who has helped greatly in the production of this year's Crest. We wish to thank Mary Ann Gerace and Paul Milley, who will be Co-Editors of the '54 Crest, and our other Junior staff members, Pat Lins, Dick Rush, Dick Eggleston, Dorothy Liebeck, Gail DeBerger, Phyllis Riordan, Jim Coulson, Henry Snyder, Teddy Hoff, Addie Jackson, and Paul Lewis. On January 15th he sent a letter to friends in North Chili in which the following state- ment appears. E'RE going out into the world, With shoulders lifted high, So fresh the air our nostrils breathe, So clear the azure sky. Our future stretches far ahead, So far we cannot see, But confidently we await, Whatever it may be. Our strivings are complete at last, Our high school days are through, And into life we pass at last, And hope our dreams come true. Sandra Sage i v In ,A Y! . , X xg f igwwqc - f N 1949, we were so glad to finally be in high school, that with Mr. Hickox as advisor, we started eagerly on our journey through. With Patsy Dewey as President, Sandra Sage Vice-President, Mary Ann Kendrot Treasurer and Barb F005 Secretary, we saw through a very financially and socially profitable year. We had the movie Three Little Girls in Blue. A skating party, Christmas party and our annual class picnic were on our social calendar. As Sophomores, September offered us a whole year of challenges. We greeted a fine new teacher, Mrs. Knapp, as our advisor. Francis Lins was elected President, Barb Foos Vice- President, Mary Ann Kendrot Secretary and David Buss Treasurer. Again, we had a movie, Margie, In the Spring we held a dance, which we appropriately called The Sophomore Spring Swing. We had another skating party and the annual picnic in Churchville Park and before we realized it, the year had slipped away. In our Junior year we accomplished many things. Doris Roach, President had a capable staff-Jack Kreckman Vice-President, Sandra Sage Secretary and Jerry Peckham Treasurer. We felt as if we were truly in the South in the 1800's when we attended our Junior Prom, Dreams Of The Old South. The theme was carried out beautifully by large colonnades, chandeliers and even portraits on the wall. After our prom, our dreams really did come true when we were able to wear our class rings at last. In January, we had a square dance and in June we enjoyed the Junior-Senior picnic at Stony Brook and Roseland Park. All in all, it was a year we shall always remember. For the third year, we greeted warmly our very capable advisor, Mrs. Knapp. Francis Lins was our President, Fritz Hoehn Vice-President, Hazel Bater Secretary and Donald Girven Treasurer. Our play You Can't Take It With You was a tremendous success. We also had a square dance, movie and above all, the Junior-Senior Ball, which was the second formal dance of our high school career. The Junior-Senior picnic was again loads of fun, this year at Crystal Beach. To climax all four years, we look forward most of all to gradu- ation, which will represent all we have enjoyed at Churchville. 13 1 G LJ PEEL BAT?-K Baz-eV 5 the gaX who happens among, H 'Yo cheer you up when things go wrong. Although she was with us only a few short years, she had made friends with all of us and participated whole-heartedly in all activities. Therefore, in memory of Sally Jo, we extend this small memoriam of our thoughts, which will remain with her forever. Z0 APR EC,YKf CYLASH! Charles Herbert Shakeshaft, noted tycoon, has just made his tenth billion manufacturing false fingernails! This bit of news appeared in the local newspaper recently, and it got me to thinking. I wonder what could have happened to the rest of my class, that wonderful class of 1953. Herby certainly has done well. It's 1985 already. My how time has flown! I wonder how they're making out. Let's see how many of them I can recall--David Buss-now, he was a masculine guy, if I ever saw one. I wonder what the rest of the class would say if they knew he sewed lace on silk hankies. And Fritz Hoehn- writing Advice to the Lovelorn! He never was much for that stuff, as I remember. Many of the class have traveled. As a matter of fact, John Smith has just left for Holly- wood to become Marilyn Monroe's fifth husband. Fran Lins is in the middle of the Pacific somewhere- he's chief tom-tom beater of the Bongo-Bongo tribe. Bucky Girven set out in a canoe to find Fran, but now he has settled on a nearby desert island and is running a very profitable Z4-hour diner. Anne MacMaster has traveled throughout the entire world, giving exhibitions of her skill on the pogo-stick. Didn't you know she was the worlds' champion pogo-stick bouncer? Bob Gruendike works with Barnum and Baileys' circus- he's a tight rope dancer. Nancy Johnson is in Africa now-she's the chief potato peeler in the WACS and must travel with the job, of course. Joyce Preston is a tea-bag-tag-tier. I can't figure out exactly what that means, but it must be awfully interesting work. Many of the class of '53 are famous personalities. Why, just the other night, I saw David Chamberlain on my TV set. I hear he has a steady job impersonating Rudolph Valentino in television films. Tom Steinhoff is doing a great job for his country- he's a top research scientist for the Atomic Fertilizer Corp. I guess his best customer is Elmer Cummings. We all knew he'd become a farmer, and he has the prettiest dark-haired milk maid. Jerry Peckham is in the scientific field too. He's the chief mechanic on an electronic kiddy car. Bruce Pomeroy is a politician with the Vegetarian Party. I knew he would get a job arguing. It was in the cards. Doris Roach has just been unanimously elected the sixth member of the Firehouse Five. She always was jazzy. Jim Wheeler trains fleas for flea circuses, and makes so much money that he had his first flea cast in bronze. It's an impressive list, to be sure, but some of the class will be long remembered for their work to improve the life of the American citizen. For in- stance, Sandra Sage designs cuspidors for hotel lobbies. Away with those old-fashioned spitoons! Mary Ann Kendrot is another graduate who thinks of nothing but the welfare of others. Upon graduation, she sold the family car and established a Home For Way- ward Boys. Guy Ellinwood was always against Demon Rum when in high school, and his future was clear to us all, for he is now the president of the local W.T.C.U. and has worked unceasingly for the abolishment of the local saloon. It appears that Barb Foos is against Guy's theory, however, for she has a wonderful job polishing beer barrels for the Pabst Co. Mrs. Hazel B. Spotts is a model in her husband's Fire Extinquisher Co. Hm-- m--m, I wonder how she fits that into the business! Nellie May Howe has become the worlds' leading business woman. How? She makes gold-plated toothpicks for million- aires like Herby. That girl always had ingenuity. I just leafed through my paper again, and what do you think? Dick Eichelberg has just won the 3rd prize in a world-wide waltz marathon--imagine that! And on the literary page- The Evils of Ping Pong, By Carol Way, has gone into its fifth printing, and the author has announced that she will soon be- gin work on a sequel, Never Trust A Man. Our wonderful class has gone far, I can see that. But what about Mrs. Knapp, our advisor? I received a letter just the other day from The Rest-A-While Home for Retired School Teachers. Now I wonder-could it have been our class that ---- no, of course not-or could it ---------- ?
