'll E ' RESE-'.N'l' The staff of THE CREST of nineteen forty-four have tried to portray your school life so that in future years you will be able to recall the happy moments spent at Churchville High. We hope that each group picture and each informal snapshot will hold a special meaning' for you. Whether it shows you as a self- conscious, scared freshman or an llppCI'Cl3SSIl1Hl1, we hope you will enjoy it. May this second edition of THE CHEST symbolize the friendly dignity and quiet charm of your Alma Mater. 4 'Ir THE CREST of nineteen forty-four is dedicated to the man who has guided our class all the way through the four years of high school. As he started his career at Churchville High School when we were freshmen, we feel honored to he, i11 a sense, his first graduating class. lt is with deep pleasure and pride that we dedicate THE CREST to our principal, Mr. Olmsted, who has shown untiring interest in our class. We appreciate his diligence in helping each of us and in striving to make Churchville High not just better, but best. 'Il E HONOR Mas. JOHN MALLOCH To Mrs. Malloch we dedicate this space in THE CREST of 1944. It is very small, indeed, in com- parison with the work she has done so untiringly for several years. Whenever someone was needed in any department of the school, Mrs. Malloch has always been there with a ready smile and a willing heart. No job has been too large for her to undertakeg and we might add that she has handled them all with competence. Mrs. Malloch, we salute you for your many years of service to Churchville High School. xo 100 5 . UAW 9 0?-' f l D l To Miss lledfern we also dedicate a portion of this page. For many years Miss Hedfern has been the teacher and friend of the young people of Churehville. Not demonstratively, but quietly, she has guided many children through their grades with an assured hand. In the minds of many of us, Miss Redfern represents friendliness, wisdom, and steadfastness. Her cheerful manner has given us a very enjoyable homeroom. The long hours that she spent in directing our Senior Play made it a success. Q 4' Q 'G K L, fx fi X MEIWORIES In the fall of 1940, Upon Churchville's hallowed ground, A flock of green-horned freshmen Started senior-bound. Bill Dietel was our presidentg Janis Woodams followed him, Jane Burson's time to business went, Money took C. Glidden's vim. As freshmen we were not so brisk, But we soon started catching up: A skating party made us friskg With roasted hots our class did sup. Next came our sophomore yearg Oh, tragic for us alll Our classmates started leaving To meet their country's call. Doc DePalma led the restg J. Woodams again was second. Jane as clerk now met the testg K. Grifhn our money reckoned. So on and on we sought To reach our school's perfection. Geometry seemed naught But a sugary confectionl Our junior year did find us With half a class or so. Then four or five more brighties With '43 did go. Our leader, Charlie Glidden, The Nav called on deck. Bob Griffiths then replaced him, And J ame became our sec. With Lois as assistant prez, And Zetta as cashier, A prom was held without Lopez, The tops of any year. Our senior year was led by Bob, With Lois coming next in line. Althea got the treas'rer's job, And Mary's records sure looked fine. And so, among them all, Marriage, jobs, war, and such, What once were forty all, Are just eleven seniors-not much. Not much, you say! Why listen, Where is the class before? We gave so much to il, To this, and that, and war. We had our Senior Play, Quite a thing at that. We had a lovely dance, For good old Saint Pat. We could dwell on many things That we seniors have doneg But why should we say more Than- WE'RE THE CLASS OF '44l -Lois Gounn 13 I r R 22. if 55, K fl fixx i 541 Junr' liurzwm l11lIIIllllIfllllClIlS l.ur1'n:u lJr'l'ulnm INN IC HI IIISI IN .lunw is xilvnl. lull slu' lcn1n1'x lr1'r yn:-Vx: sfwnx ln nn' sin-'s Sailor II ixvf' Iiirls' Illmrus I. 2. Ivlary Eleanor Slaines Paul Slein 15 P tE'VUES This year s Senior Class is the smallest in the history of Churchville. lt totals the lofty sum of eleven fair ladies and brave sirs. We shall now endeavor to foretell the future of these inspiring young people Here we have Miss Jane Burson, for whom we predict a brilliant future as a needle in a sewin machine-because she's so sharp! We inow from a reliable source that she will go a long way with the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Next on our list is Patrolman Cal- kins, for whom we foresee a delightful future as chief detective for the Harris Seed Company. It will be his job to plant a guard, which will take root in Coldwater and keep the Harris firm from going to seed. Step to the right, ladies. Here comes Lorenzo Doc De Palma. For him we predict the business world. He will manufacture locks of hair Cwith glue includedj so more men can pattern their lives after Frank Sinatra. As an avocation, he'll croon. The next fair lady is Lois Gould. For her we predict fto keep in shapej a rivet- ing job at Lockheed. She will make the thing-a-ma-bob for the watch-cha- ma-call-it in the struzelbaum. After Lois we naturally find Bob Grilliths. You know what he's going to doll lnvent mustache cups. In the near future he'll open a factory. Don't forget, says Bob, they'll come in assorted sizes and colors. Then comes Stanley Z. CDapper Stan! Johnson. We redict for him a line career as head buyer of men's wear for Sibley, Lindsay, and Curr Company. In his spare time, he will edit the Messqu1re, a magazine for the well- dressed young man. -MARY HELEN CODY and JANET DUNNING And now that versatile little charac- ter, Althea Morey. She's one of those few peolple who know enough to come in out o the rain. She will definitely add many new amendments to the Con- stitution. For Zetta Silver, the little housewife, we see a darling cottage complete with shutters, picket fence, and children, or perhaps she'll be matron of a girls' prison. She can be rather stern, you now. And next, Ruth Smith, who will have a brilliant future as Assistant Manager of Fairview Farms, Waverly, New York. The manager you will remember as a former Churchville boy. Make way for Miss Mary Spick and Span Staines. She is headed for a grand future as head of Hustle-Bustle- r weep-Em-Clean Broom Company. Mary Eleanor is known for her neat- ness, you know. And last, but by no means least, is Paul Barber Pole Stein, better known as Romeo. We predict for Romeo a .I uliet. Together they will go to Holly- wood and who knows, maybe they'll be a second Clark Gable and Marjorie Mainl 16 xi .PS 'AS Q C... luvk mm 3 llumlrfrll. lf1H1!llIlll'l', l.ullu.
