Having received the highest rating of Medalist from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the 1971 Trucker, we realized that we had perfected that style of book and could do no better. Therefore, we decided to try a new and different approach in presenting the life at Churchland High School. The final product is the 1972 Trucker. With the assistance of a new sponsor. Miss Mary Rice, the staff of eleven veteran members and ten new members worked from spring 1971 to spring 1972 to produce the 1972 Trucker. Beginning with the initial tasks of collecting ads, selecting a theme, and designing a cover, the staff assumed the responsibilities of meeting four deadlines, and finally assisted in the distribution of the books. Performing these duties, the staff toiled many long afternoons, weekends, and holidays. The theme of the 1972 Trucker, dealing with music and the moods, tries to portray a sound and sensual effect along with the visual effect created by the many pictures. The cover, a Arlene Hewitt and Danny Brenner — co-editors, and ViAnn Lynch — business manager. picture of a rock band printed under 1972 Trucker, emphasizes this theme. Copy and captions were omitted except in the opening and closing sections, thereby creating the feeling that pictures speak more effectively than words. In effect, we have let our pictures tell the story of Churchland High School. Dimensions, the most recent innovation, is an attempt at a type of photo-essay depicting life at Churchland. Although unable to have spot-color, due to fi- nances, we have applied special effect tech- niques to the divider pages. Sectional pages were reapportioned so that more coverage could be given to student life. We would like to thank the following; WEBB Productions for the cover picture; Delmar Studi- os for club and class pictures; Mr. Irvin Goodwin for club and student life pictures; Smith and Welton ' s for senior pictures; Mr. John Perry of Hunter Publishing Company; and all of our ad- vertisers. 220 J Rock bands broaden “scope” of assemblies in school Music ... a motivation to many . . . another art which, in truth, does not imitate life . . . but rather expresses it . . .a source of inspiration which gives a broader view ... in its most crude, unwrought state or its most refined or poetic form, it services a multitude of people and tasks . . . 221 222 Eryj!
