if '-3 fv 'N PROPHECY It was May 25, 1962, the day in which the Class of'57 was to hold their first reunion at the Park Sheraton Hotel in New York City. Loutitia Barnes and I were walking along from City Hos- pital where we worked as registered nurses. We began talking about th e c la s s and all the good times we had had in the past. As we entered Central P a rk , we saw two familiar faces. They were Carl Snider and R.V. Potter, who were now in the Navy. We talked to them for a while, and then left for the Sheraton. As we neared the Empire State Building, we nearly bumped into Linda Sigmon, who was a bookkeeper there. She started talking about her dearest friend, Julia Gibbs, who was a Red Cross worker in Lexington, North Carolina. We three went to the Sheraton, where we saw Julia talking to S ar ah Snider, a State Home Demonstration Agent, out front. The group went inside, and the re we saw Bobby Lumsden, who hadn't accomplished much, but as mean as ever, talking to Jimmy Swicegood and Gr ov er Ward, who, by this time, were old married men. We said hello to them and joined the talkative group in the corner which included Loretta Grubb and Dolores Spry, who were now wives of servicemen. They were complimenting Essie Cope Nancy Lassiter--Wait--Mrs. Bill Forrest, about her cartoons on NBC. We talked to them for a fewminutes and asked where the rest of the class were. They said the others would come later. We were listening to Bobby recite Macbeth, when the door flew open and in came Carol Sharpe Everhart, who was furious about her Cad- illac breaking down on Times Square. Following her were Johnny Hanes, who was owner of Hanes Supermarkets, and James Kesler, who persuaded Idella to let him come. We began counting the members of the class to see who was missing, and it turned out to be Foy Lee Davis and Buddy Gobble, Ln burst Foy Lee, who was driving for Harris Express Com- pany, and Buddy Gobble, a businessman in Cali- fornia. Now the class was complete. We talked a- bout the times in school when no one wanted to teach the dreaded class. We didn't think that we were all that bad. The time flew by as it did when we were in school, and soon Loutitia and I had to say good- by to a night and its contents that would be re- membered until the next reunion of the Class of '57.

' Y Af- Q my Q 'vvs rs V- f .. Y... Nancy Lassiter In the fall of 1953, 30 small frightened boys and girls entered high school for the first time. Under the leadership of Mr. Grubb, we became use to being called green Freshmen, and began in earnest our high schooling by electing James Simerson,Presidentg Duke Dyson,Vice President and Ted Doby and Foy Lee Davis as Secretary and Treasurer. We were very happy when Nancy Beck, Nancy Lassiter, Jimmy Swicegood, Duke, and Grover Ward were chosen for the Basketball teams. Those on the Baseball team were: Ted, R.V. Potter, James Duke, and Jimmy . Sarah Snider was on the Annual Staff and Jimmy was in the High School Play. By the end of the year we were looking forward to our summer vacation and next year when we would be Sophmores. Summer v ac ation , as usual, wasn't long en ough . Soon we were back in school electing Carol Sharpe, Bobby Lum sd en , Nancy B., and Essie Cope for our officers. Mr. Honeycutt was Our sponsor. By this time we had been reduced to Z5 students, and were classified as the dumb ones. Some were smart, though. When the wait- resses and waiters were chosen, Essie, Sarah, Linda Sigmon, Julia Gibbs, Bobby, and Nancy L. were the honored six. Sarah, Loretta Grubb, Dolores Spry and Bobby were the new additions to the Basketball teams. Nancy L. and Bobby were on the annual staff and Jimmy was again in HISTORY the High School Play, Bobby was a new addition to the baseball team. As school ended again, we began to relize our duties as Juniors. After another short vacation, we returned to begin our busiest year. We were still called the 21 dumb ones, but we tried to prove them wrong. We elected Bobby, Jimmy, Essie and Sarah. The marshals were Nancy L., Chief, Essie, Julia and Bobby. Jim my was new on the annual staff. With Mr. Smith as our sponsor, we selected a Dutch theme for our Jr.-Sr. at the Plantation in Greens- boro. Now we r e ally realized our importance when we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of our third summer. Then, it was September again, and we re- turned to realize that our dreams had become true and we were Seniors. With only 18 students, Miss Story, our sponsor, helped us choose our class officers, Jimmy, Bobby, Essie and Sarah. Nancy L. was chosen Editor of the annual staff. A Commercial Times was organized with Sarah, Editor, assisted by Essie, Nancy L., Loutitia, Dolores and Loretta.. Now as graduation approaches, we realize that we will never again come back to Church- land as students after avery short vacation. We will miss our classmates, but we will never for- get them nor the faculty who helped us to achieve this important step in our lives.
