Q0 we try to be reasonable and overlook and forgive them for being cranky. Right in there pitching with the faculty is the school board. Frank Scholz, Don Chapman and Waldo Davis are as interested in the athletic deficit as they are in the new roof scheduled for the high school. Board members and fac- ulty alike turn out one hundred per cent for our football games and school functions. They come, we know not from a sense of duty, but because they're interested in the school. That's why they're doing such a good job, we think. Standing: Nevada Walker, Loretta Jesch. Laura Lue Johnson, Jackie Ferguson, Victoria Achurra. Sitting: Ray Swindlehurst. Billy Marsh. ANNUAL STAFF What with Red Cross and USO and a dozen and one other charities to support, we felt Fallon merchants couldn't aEord ads in the annual this year, so we students are footing all the bills. Bill Marsh has figured out a way for us to come out on top, too. The student body has backed us to the man by signing up for a total of three hundred copies of our book. We've tried to put into our abbreviated war-time book those pictures and write-ups that will mean most to you ten years from now. Mrs. Foster has given us her time and many of her limited supply of films. From Nevada Engravers Mr. Lane has sent us excellent cuts. Without Claude Smith at The Standard oflice We know We'd never get over the first dummy. And while we're handing out citations we thank Tom Weaver and Bill Longwill for the sports copy they've turned in. We hope you like the book. 115 U' Q ' czgif' QS SVHULZ l..Xl'l'lA I,l'lf1 JOHNSON PA'l l Y EMFIRY Q 'E MAI: Y HAMMON In 1 lent Vim--l'i-wsiilciit Sei-iw-l:i1'y Treasurer SEN IORS Here we are, SENIORS I After a few long years of study and a few short years of l'un,we get an empty feeling when we realize we'll go through the doors of good old C.C.H.S. for the last time as students. We now have to take life with all its seriousness we can spare. Besides driving the majority of the faculty almost crazy '.'.'ith our childish pranks, and ditching away some of our val- uable school hours, we did get down to business and accom- plish some worth-while things. We've had some experience we can look back upon and exclaim, Those were the good old days, and wonder if a certain teacher has found out yet who it was who really did roll the marbles down the study hall. Of course there's always been a senior cut day - one day when we can forget our many worries and eat and be merry in some scheduled spot far from school. Towards the end of the school year comes the big dinner and dance held just for us. This year's was special, and we all had a wonderful time. ' We're going to be a proud bunch graduation night. For the first time, we're giving our graduation exercises without an outside speaker. We rushed around to get the program organized so we can march up on the stage in our caps and gowns. On slightly wobbly knees we'll go one by one to get our diplomas. We'll miss our classmates who have already Joined the armed forces and send them our congratulations. 'Vvx se-,..,,,. They even shoved us into one corner of the senior session room to accommodate the high juniors. A few of our more ambitious members left us long ago to take five subjects and graduate this year. But who wants to work that hard? Some of us boys who expect to be whisked off to help Uncle any minute now are planning on taking civics twice a day next fall so that We can earn graduation credits by Janu ary. The Markers, Amos and Gerald, have already left us to trade their cords for a uniform. Though we may be a small class of three girls and six boys, we boast some of the school's best athletes. Bell, Homer, Kegans and Weaver all helped the Green Wave chalk up an undefeated football season. The boys won't admit it, but one of the reasons they decided not to graduate this year was that they hated to see Coach losing all his best players. In addition to that, we already have hand-picked our candi- dates for student-body officers next year. HIGH SOPHOMORE We were sadly handicapped our freshman year because through no fault of our own, word has been circulated around high school that we were what the faculty hopefully refers to as a good class. Gradually but surely we're living down that frightening reputation. So We might concentrate on our lessons, the powers that be decided to separate our session. Mrs. Wallace won the girls, while Mr. Requa fell heir to us boys. At first we carried on our flirtations through the window connecting the two session rooms, but Mrs. Wallace put a stop to that by heartlessly hanging a huge calendar to block our view. One reason we all look so happy in our picture is that picture taking day was the first time we'd seen some of our favorite sophomore girls since freshman days. The first party I've ever attended where I had all the ice cream I wanted, we heard one senior say wistfully as he was leaving our class party. Everyone else had a good time, too. Soon after our party, our class president, Harry Pardick, left to join the Navy. Where we'll find another man as good as he we don't know.. Vice-president Bill Longwill has carried on for us. Our classmates earned four football and four basketball letters. Surely we're the class to watch next year. LOW OPHOMORE We didn't come into our own until Friday, April 14. On that afternoon, while the other high school students strug- gled with nouns and theorems, we left school and went for a jeep ride to inspect the new airport. To earn the ride and holiday, we sold more bonds and stamps than any other class. The seniors watched us leave, and we democratically waved goodbye to them. We were amazed ourselves when we remem- bered a very short year ago we'd been low freshmen. Miss Fletcher kept us busy during sessions, has prodded us on to remarkable achievements. When we've com- pleted our daily assignments-lessons always come first with us, of course-we discuss whether we'll graduate in three and a half years or stick around for four and a half. When we think of our true worth to the school, we've almost decided to please the faculty by staying as long as we can. The cold hand of the draft board hasn't snatched any of us yet, but next year may be a different tale. True, we haven't too many names on the A honor list, nor have we won any Block F's, but we think if we take things slow and easy-like this year, by next fall we shall be ready to assume our true place as the leaders of the school. HIGH FRESHME We took our first step toward school domination when we elected the Napoleon of the freshman class, Nick Holt, as our manager. Nick has managed to sneak in - and out - of a good many tight spots to keep us informed as to what was cooking at school. So capable did we become we planned and put over a Leap Year dance by ourselves. We were sorry Mr. Johnson was home ill and couldn't enjoy the party, but we felt pretty smug over the efficient way we managed it. Geno Steve and Robert Madsen brought us glory by winning their football letters almost before we realized weld reached high school. Our names have padded several honor lists. Now that the school year's almost over, we feel like vet- erans and wonder whatever made us nervous last fall. We no longer fear a demerit, we know where all the rooms are, and we even speak to senior men and women as if we lived on the same earth as they. Mr. Nelson got us started on the right foot first semester during session, and his work was nobly carried out by Mr. White during the second semester. FIRESIDE CIRCLE Climaxing their year's work, Fireside Circle girls enter- tained their mothers and eighth grade girls and their moth- ers at a spring festival and style show in April. Mothers ot' members were honored guests at an installation ceremony. The group made commando dolls for the A.W.V.S. The girls prepared a banquet for the F'.F.A. and mothers ot' the F.F.A. boys, and a banquet for the vocational heads. They sold pop at all home basket and football games, the proceeds from which helped buy war bonds for the group. They also bought and made drapes and luncheon cloths for the home ec rooms. Members ot' the group enjoyed several informal social events during the year. Pins were awarded to members of the club who earned two hundred points for work during the year. Fireside Circle girls include any who are taking or who have taken home economics. Miss Ruth Proctor is their advisor. We're proud that we still have a bank balance and a bond. We'Ve had a wonderful time this year, with pleasant memories ot' meals and snacks we've enjoyed tantalizing us. We know that our mothers who have entertained us and prepared our parties are chiefly responsible for a happy year in Alpha Lambda. Our Christmas dance we think super. The vision of Today and of the Fu- ture is to make the school available to adults, as well as youth, when they have problems the school can help them solve to the ben- efit of themselves and the community. Today's problems call for new courses such as How to Grow a Victory Garden, Food Preserva- tion by Dehydration, In- creasing Poultry Produc- tion, Repairing Farm Ma- chinery, Farm Wiring for Electricity, How to Oper- ate Business Machines, and How to Teach an Em- ployee. Who can tell what should be taught tomor- row? Perhaps it should be 'llncome Tax Recording and Reporting, Farm Bookkeeping, How to Get More for Your Money, Home Decoration, How to Rear Happy Children, Balancing Rations for L i v e s t o c k, Salesman- ship, or Farm Leader- ship. If the need arose would it be absurd or vi- sionary to teach Synthetic Rubber Production, In- creasing Soybean Produc- tion, Typing with one I-land, 'How to Fly a He- liocopter, Selling Plastic Cars and Houses, or How to See the World in Two Week's Vacation? VVhat- ever the needs may be in the future the individual should remember to come to the school for help. EDUCATHJ lf you Villll buy zi power riiowc-r, learn liow to bu IJIIP.
