Even though it was Friday, a hush came over the school. At first nobody believed the story, and the more each student thought about Mr. Mc- Cracken's not being here next year, the worse he felt. For twenty-one years McCracken has served as principal of the Fallon High School. For twenty-one years he has maintained discipline, kept his curriculum up to the highest standards, maintained an excellent balance between school fun and school business. But it's for personal reasons he will be remem- bered in the hearts of the people whom he has guided through the twenty- one years. It's the informal chats in the hall, the twinkle in his eye when he handed out demerits to students who played hookey to go fishing, his ability to see both the student's and the teacher's point oi' view, that have endeared him in the hearts ol' his students. Mads influence over his grads has never ended with graduation night, and it never will. Always happy to give the kind of references that make students wish they deserved them. he has helped many graduates to good jobs. Never too busy to talk over personal problems, his good advice has helped many an alumni over a tight spot. The student body has talked about leaving some kind of memorial to him.
