M I ' poor culprit that this is his sixth denieril. MAC isn't coming back -the news ran from one student to another. Even though it was Friday, a hush came over the school. At first nobody believed the story, and the more each student thought about Mr. Mc- Cracken's not being here next year, the worse he felt. For twenty-one years McCracken has served as principal of the Fallon High School. For twenty-one years he has maintained discipline, kept his curriculum up to the highest standards, maintained an excellent balance between school fun and school business. But it's for personal reasons he will be remem- bered in the hearts of the people whom he has guided through the twenty- one years. It's the informal chats in the hall, the twinkle in his eye when he handed out demerits to students who played hookey to go fishing, his ability to see both the student's and the teacher's point oi' view, that have endeared him in the hearts ol' his students. Mads influence over his grads has never ended with graduation night, and it never will. Always happy to give the kind of references that make students wish they deserved them. he has helped many graduates to good jobs. Never too busy to talk over personal problems, his good advice has helped many an alumni over a tight spot. The student body has talked about leaving some kind of memorial to him. Members take track, band, orchestra, Forum-anything they can lay hands on and plow through with it all and the honor roll, too. They seem to sail along with the greatest ot' case, oblivious ot' anything-then classes, and a gleam in the teachers' eyes as they read the papers these kids have sent in. We can't figger them out. We're sure they aren't teachers' pets, either, because we'Ve seen most ot' them shoving a broom around in a desultory sort ot' way. To wear this letter, the student must earn tour A credit slips in four major subjects. Surprisingly enough, most of the members ot' the group are carry- ing five majors in addition to their extra-curricular activities. The majority oi' the crew are scientific or academic students. Most ot' them plan to go on to college to carry on Fallon High's scholastic records. Membership of this group does much to refute the good old argument that a student can't have a brain and be an athlete at the same time. Final goal of this group is to have his name appear on the 20-30 Club plaque. On this plaque is placed each June the name ot' the senior boy and girl who has had the highest scholastic record for his course. Members of the home ec. Ill class served a formal dinner for Mr. Shierson and his guidance committee, and in April they served a dinner for the school board and the faculty. All girls enrolled in home arts served the F.F.A. mother-and-son banquet. Fireside Circle girls put on a pep rally for the Stewart football game and spring assembly program dealing with home economics. ln May, mothers and friends were enter- tained at a special program and style show. Sometimes he'd listen so closely, he'd forget to give the second sopranos their cue, and they'd have to try again. The members of the group love music, but not to the extent of forgetting their stomachs. The lovely singers munch their sand- wiches and attempt to sing. They giggle at the wrong times, catch a bad cold before the state meet, cut when they should be practicing. Hut somehow through it all, John Telecky keeps right on grinning. Maybe he knows they have what it takes. They met Sparks for a chance at the state championship. This game was a real hcartbreaker for the Green Wave. Twice the Fallon lads made long runs for touchdowns, only to be called back by the referee. Although there was some dispute be- tween the otiicials, l allon went down 20-123 in favor ol' the Sparks team. After receiving such a set-back as this, the boys took their revenge by beating Stewart 6-0. The Thanksgiving day game with Reno was dropped ti-0 as the football spirit died in Churchill County at the end of a successful season. This year Fallon turned out 23 let- ter men, 15 ot' whom will be back next year. ln addition to turning out a good team. Coaches Norwood and Van Heu- velen turned o11t a good camera man, Harry Shierson. Shierson took moving pictures of all the games so that each game could be studied and errors ot' the team righted. Churchill's pride and joy fur the season ot' '41 is Albert Cyel' Hicks, who captured the berth of All-State tackle, and who was presented a gold football and chain for his accomplish- ment. Piercy Holli- day was made second string guard. Bev Waller received honorable mention. Managers for the '41 season were very scarce, although one little red- headed Billy Marsh suffered the tor- tures of the football team through the season. We used red and blue and white crepe paper in decorating the gym. At one end of the room we placed a picture of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and at the other a picture of General Douglas MacArthur. While these two gentlemen beamed approval from the wall, students pur- chased ten-cent defense stamps to attend the party. When the proceeds were tallied, we found we had enough stamps to buy a twenty-five-dollar defense bond for the high school. Our refreshments of PLENTY of ice cream-at least for two dishes for everybody-and cake helped carry out the patri- otic theme, we thought.
