Each one of us is a part of Churchill. Each one of us adds in making each year different. Our contribution may be leadership, helpfulness, or just a friendly smile. Each individual who helps us to grow, overcome, love, and learn, adds to our life. The different individuals, together, contribute to our lives at Churchill. The sum of the Whole thing amounts to this - every individual . . responsible . . is made . . for his definite share in the successful working of the Whole. Gibran 7 Sophomores During the first week of school, the sophomores felt insecure and lost. Yet it didn't take long before the sophomores felt they belonged with the juniors and seniors. The sophomores, too, became an important part of Churchill. They brought new faces, new ideas, and the hope of different and better things to come. 4:-..- J K all , .Ja- fff' 'rigid 'l E E i iihdl -V, 55 Z L' QW qw V -11 ' vu -f - W . ,, ,, , 35- A - . And so We should honor each for what is hidden Within him, for what only he has, and none of his fellows. - Martin Buber A feeling of ease accompanies the juniors throughout the entire year. They return in September filled with self-confidence, because they have already experienced one year of high school. During the year, the juniors learn to no longer divide into two separate groups. They begin to see each other as real people, as individuals. Each person possesses something which is special to only him and which he shares with others. It was held March 275 1971. A true atmosphere francais consisting of can-can girls, French pastries, parfaits, a fashion show, and French music surrounded everyone who attended. Charter The Charter staff continued the tradition of an issue every two weeks, covering all school ac- tivities. For the first time in four years, the paper had a fem- inine leader but that didn't pre- vent exceptionally fine sports reporting. Martha Peirce edited a new publication, the daily mini- Charter, which, in lieu of morn- ing announcements, gave stu- dents and faculty valuable in- formation. L.. R Supporting every school dra- matic production is the job of each member of dramatic arts. As a result of their Work, they have learned how to communi- cate, share and display their acting ability during produc- tions. The six lovable characters in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown swept the audience into a youthful world of baseball teams, supper times, kites, jump ropes, and security blankets. Through humor songs and dan- ces, the cast produced a success- ful show. The cast was honored by being invited to perform at the Three Rivers Arts Festival and during the opening Week of the White Barn Theatre. Something Personol Something personal, really per- sonal, something there to call your own. Something Personal, presented April 1, 2, and 3, 1971 and directed by Mr. Braden Walter, was the first musical of its kind to be per- formed at Churchill. The story deals with young people and their attitudes toward society today. The musical became something very personal to everyone in- volved. V. , xx g. x A A ,.e,,., . . is M ill' Varsity Football Under a new coach and an entirely different system, the Chargers dropped their first three games. At the time of the third loss, the local press took Coach Barry Johncour and the team for habitual losers and picked them as forty point underdogs against the hottest team in the conference, undefeated North Allegheny. This set the stage for Churchill's first victory of the season as they shellacked the Tigers, 26-7. With the Chargers fi- nally seeming to grasp Coach J ohncour's technique, they again had to battle an undefeated team. The defense, led by middlelinebacker Joe Viglione, sparkled and one touchdown was enough as Churchill shutout rival Gate- way, 6-0'. , A 5-4 season sounds like the same old Charger football team, but it was anything but that. A new found PRIDE was evident among the team in almost every game, and it is hoped this PRIDE carries over to give Coach Johncour and his staff an even more successful season next year. 92 -S o ff? But 1971 could best be termed as a building year for Coach Robert Fisher and his youthful squad. Constant performers Joe Iovino, Bob Hoover, Manny Russon, and, Dave McDonald, all underclassmen and all lettermen, will return next season to possibly give Churchill the best cross country team it has ever had. 1972 marks the third and final year of a three-year development program Coach Fisher started when some of the boys were in junior high. Next season he hopes the program pays off and gives Churchill something it's never had before - a cross country championship. -3 ll. il l ,, nv 4 x J - U S f ' .1 6 1 2 . . , V, -,V Iv.-af - r 1 s ,u w ' r fl v 1 y 3 1 , r r X y'.y,,vl U 1 1 . 7 . ,I in f N 1 I 1 a' 1 f' - YI!! When the smoke had lifted, we were second in the state - and you can't do much better than that! 107 08 Wrestling The Charger Wrestling Team proved to be one of the most exciting teams at Churchill this year. Due to inexperience among the lightweight grapplers, the heavyweights, who came to be known as The Thundering Herd, proved to be the spearhead of the team.
