The Pittsburgh Hilton provided the perfect romantic setting for the festivities: dinner by candlelight, dancing to Walt Maddox, or a quiet walk through the Pittsburgh Point. Each couple was given a paper rose and a lollipop as a memory of the evening, but each of us went home with a more personal, lasting memory of the prom of 1970. ' i 1 . The Coronation Ball, car washes, Charger Nite, Christmas tree sales, and dances blend into a colorful collage of happy memories. At the same time, high school is a place to enioy and to have fun, for these formidable years, the many friendships and the atmosphere will never present itself again. ln the past decade we have witnessed profound social, cultural, and technological changes in America. A poem, a sketch, a photograph - it is the language of openness, individuality, and vulnerability of those who are reaching out to communicate a feeling. '- our means of sharing something personal Tom Reno and Ron Saupe. The nearly impossible task of capturing a unique school year and forming it into one meaningful representation for the entire body faces the Lance staff. This year we have attempted to portray the changes that have occurred in Churchill through a comparison to the past. This yearbook serves as a memory of a year at Churchill that has now passed. has been to color these memories and awaken them time and time again - everytime this book is opened - memories of the frustration, the ioys, the despairs, the boredom - the feelings we experienced individually are what made l97O-7l a unique school year. So that these personal memories remain more vivid than a remembrance of the past We present the 1970-7l Lance. V.. .. -Z... Four early wins ignited powerful team spirit and brought enthusiastic spectators. The Chargers tasted the disappointment of defect at East Alleghenyhand continued to disappoint the Chargers' fans at three of the remaining four games. A powerful offense led by Big 33 nominees, Phil Beleichak and Tom Hilinski, carried the Chargers to their five victories of the season. Art Cutruzzula, Bob Denove, and Lou Dinzeo, named as all-conference players, were also vital to the squad.
