Bill Morrison, Mark Poindexter, Guv Weber, Tom Grady, Troy Matsumoto, Carl Javines, According to Coach Gary Chapman, the 1979 edition of the foot¬ ball team started the season with great expectations, but the 1979 Record grand visions of these young athletes did not materialize. Playing in a very tough Metro League, the Spartans had to play 7 MAR VISTA 6 four teams in the top ten in the county. Even though the results were not successful, the will to win was never lost. They gave 14 MONTGOMERY 28 us many exciting moments during the past season, leading the 7 HILLTOP 31 Metro League in passing offense and playing with considerable 6 CORONADO 20 emotion. 21 SWEETWATER 49 The 1979 team was a very close group. Their togetherness 9 MARIAN 10 made it possible to endure the disappointing season. They always came to win and never gave up. In this respect the 13 CASTLE PARK 42 Spartans were league champs.
