' { | } j ee eee Morris jumps up for a block. Volleyball The Varsity Volleyball team finished sixth in the Metro Conference with a 7—11 won-—loss record. The team was led by most-valuable player and number-one setter Cindy :Harris. Hard work and good hitting by Seniors Teri Brown, Joanne Kellar and Nancy Hedderson added pun ch to the team. The Junior Varsity, led by Hope Muroka, finished the season with 9 wins and 9 losses. The JV, a team of mostly sophomores with good attitude and depth exhibited great potential for next season. | | Todd Stoddard leaps for rebound. The 1978—79 Spartan Basketball Team was a very young club. Two sophomores and two juniors ‘started. Only one ‘senior was able to crack the starting five. The team finished in 5th place in the Metro League and showed ‘signs of championship play by winning their last three games of the ‘season. Coach Mike Collins expects this ‘streak to continue next season, as seven of his top eight players will return in a bid for the Metro crown. Individually the team had its outstanding players: Todd Stoddard: leading ‘scorer (13.5 pts.), top freethrow ‘shooter, Most Valuable Player and Star News All Metro 2nd Team. Craig Wilson: Co-Captain, assist leader, and 10.6 points per game, Louie Gonzales: averaged 10.8 rebounds 12.6 points, and was Honorable Mention All- Metro. Herbie LaMadrid: Co-Captain and the team’s Best Defensive Player.
