CLASS HISTORY t My 'i K In September of 19116 a group of ,xg gig?' bewildered freshmen gathered in the last ,gg 1JiiEQf rows of the auditorium. Some were familiar, 1ls?L-gg2fd but many were new faces from Kings Fork and Driver. sQ Mr. Christopher welcomed us and soon we were settled into - the activities of the tribe with Miss Faulconer as our fresh en councelor After becoming better acquainted we elected class officers atherine Rippey was elected our wigwam chief with the great s tech of Ugh' Assistant chief was Buckie Whitmore with Rachel and Ray Jourdan as totem pole inscriber and wampum keeper Catherine was also elected to represent us on the honor council, George Eberwine and Catherine Rippey were appointed as members of the social committee Since this was our first year around the campfire there were many new activities The tribe dances in the gmm, athletics for both girls and boys, the magazine campaign and numerous others, occupied much time Our first year in the tribe was gone before we knew it and we were now second class Indians, with Miss Piland as our councelor we were greeted by a new principal this year, hr Brooks we were sad to see Mr Christopher go, but felt sure Mr Brooks would be Just as nice Our wigwam leaders this year were Ray Jourdan as chief and Catherine Rippey as assistant Totem pole inscriber and wampu keeper were Marion Wilkerson and Brave Eberwine were on the social com ittee we were soon participating in the magazine campaign And did we participate' With Maidens Rippey and Wilkerson leading in sales, we sold more magazines than any group before or since There were the usual sports activities that we all enthusiastically supported June was here before we knew it and we said good by to some of the tribe, who would not return next vear Our vacation was over before it started and we were back as third class Indians with Niss lartin as our councelor Ray and Catherine were again wigwam chiefs with Rachel Matthews and Tippy Joyner as totem pole inscriher and wamou keeper Ray was also vice president of the chief council representatives this year Before we knew what had happened, Mr Saunders was here and we ordered our rings Then came the Halloween party, at which we were extra successful, in fact, we were so successful we had an orchestra for the first time at anv Junior and Senior for Chuckatuck All the school activities came along and we managed to do our part in all as well as make much wamoum In September we returned to school to play our part as dignified Seniors This year was a great disappointment for the maidens by this time greatly outnu bered the braves Whether they fell on the battlegrounds I H f X Q!!! gay 6 XV W 5 x 'I :ff :ggi-ff I ff H .II ' ' ' Ma ' . . The war paint was really flying Soon Mr Saunders came and we had the great dec1s1on to make as to what k1nd of announcements and calllng cards we were to -order for that great occaslon' For the flrst t1me 1n Chuckatuck's history we had an eleven man foot ball team 1n h1gh school Three of our b1g burly braves were on the varslty Um b1dd1 bum bu ! ' Chr1stnas Hol1days When we returned 1n January basketball was 1n full sw1ng Many of our maldens partlcipated Thus we won county champ1onsh1p and distr1ct B championshlp In Aprll we had our hilarious senlor play The characters were Mar1on Wilkerson, Patherine Rlppev, Barbara Ann Byrd, Sally Beazley, Anne Ayers, Rachel Matthews, Ruby Pinner, Dickle Ca r, Raymond Johnson, Curt1s Wills, Buck1e Whitmore, and George K Eberwlne Th1s turned out to be a great success For the f1rst time 1n several years Chuckatuck had a May Day program under Miss Powell's dlrectnon The Oueen, King, Maid of Honor and Prlnce came from our class Their pictures may be found on the campus snapshots sheets we were honored by a Junlor and Senior banquet and prom, which we all enjoyed immensely' So came the end of our school days at C H S , a Joyous occaslon for some but a sad one for others we had our Bacculareate servlce on June hth, in the school auditorium On Tuesday mprnlng, we had our class day exercises The f1nal exercises were Tuesda night we will long remember marching down the aisle for the last time and will chlrish the memor1es of dear old C H S Thus, as a class, we bade farewell' Marion Wilkerson Catherlne R1ppey Tlppy Joyner Ss I U , K I f X ' ' - f . .
