Vicki Dowler, Editor-in-chief ' THEN '-. P 3 gs 5 ag -iff Christopher Newport Colfliig 9-is ege of William 8 Mary Four y e ar s ago the CHRlS's CRIER, a three page mimeographed newspaper, appeared as the first newspaper published by Christopher Newport College. It was the result of a few stu- dent's hard work. From that effort there has evolved the present CAPTAIN'S LOG. Besides the name c han ge many other improvements have been made during the past four years. No longer is the paper mimeographed, but it is sent to a professional printer. It has in- creased from three pages to four and, in some instances, to asix or eight page production. The staff has set up an exchange program with area high schools and colleges across the nation. Encouraged by their success, the staff continues to make improvements in the content and pub- lication of the newspaper. Also under thejurisdiction of the newspaper staff is the annual Christmas dance. The high- light of this occasion is the presentation of the Christmas Court and Miss CNC, who have been previously elected in contests sponsored by the newspaper. Thus by sponsoring these activities and by presenting accurate reports, the CAPTAIN'S LOG is instrumental in arousing interest among the students. 28

YOUNG DEMOCRATS CLUB Front Row CL-RD Irene C hr i st of i , Ed Mirmelstein Leslie Deyong, Back Row CL-RD, Bob Gray, President Jean Regone, Pat Henry, John Moss. New among the activities at Chris- topher Newport college this year was the Young Democrats Club. Since 1964 was an election year, political interest was at a peak. Even though most of the students weren't of voting age, they wanted to par- ticipate as muchas possible in the cam- paign. They did this by displaying post- ers, attending rallies, and in general, stimulating political awareness among the students. After the November elections the club continued to function. They Worked on various projects to raise money for the Kennedy Memorial Library Fund and for a trip to Washington D.C. By partic- ipation in activities of this sort the mem- bers of the club achieved a greater appre- ciation for American politics and govern- ment. ian vu s fjif 1 P Q W is fi vu as M uw
