WOMENS HGNOR COUNCIL The Women's Honor Council at Christopher Newport College is composed of seven women: four representatives from the sophomore class and thr e e representatives from the freshman class. These seven representatives try to influence all the students in the college to put honor into their daily lives and into their every deed. The Honor Council's main objectives are to di- rect offenders and to endeavor to promote honesty in all aspects of school life. However, the backbone of the Women's Honor Council is not these seven representatives, but the students themselves. Without their acceptance of the Honor Code the Counci1's purposes and goals would remain clear but unattainable. Thus, it is the hope of the Women' s Honor Coun- cil that all students will join in its endeavors and pledge without reservation, their full and un- limited support of the Honor Code. 22

MEN' HONOR COUNCIL The Men's Honor Council is composed of four sophomore representitives and three fresh- man representitives elected by vote of the student body. It is their duty to act on any off e ns e committed by a male member of the student body. The responsibility of honor is not only inthe handsof the Honor Council, but in every student. Under the honor s y st e m of Christopher Newport College every student is expected to develop and maintain his own integrity. The purpo s e of the honor system is to create an atmosphere that enables honor to grow in the student. The success of the honor council rests in the strength of each individual. Infractions of the Honor Code include cheating, stealing, lying, and failure to report an of- fense. Whenever a student is accused of a breach of this code, the Honor Council has the right to investigate and if necessary conduct an honor trial. A violation of the Honor Code is punish- able by dismissal from the college, but the penalty may be modified if the council finds reasons conclusive for doing such. 21
