How much of life has been learned, lived, and understood in this time? How much of lite has been absorbed and been made pro- ductive? Yearbooks often fail in their attempts to fully portray this quest for lite's secrets. This one is not an exception. The sense of satis- faction in searching for truth, the thrill of vic- tory in a basketball game, the closeness of God in a prayer meeting is not easily told by pictures or descriptive paragraphs. This an- nual only serves to tell in part of our attempts to grasp the true meaning of Knowledge with Reverencef' Having obtained with the help of God a fragment of this goal, the Class ot 1963 prayerfully steps forward toward the vast horizon of the future. :-'.., ' ' K ,U . We sincerely appreciate the many times you have been willing to help us with our studies. As a member of the Administrative Committee, you have been an asset in the planning of school activities. Along with these responsibilities, you have also made a con- tribution to the Church through your ministry at Skippack. For the devotion you have shown to your work here and to the Church, we, the Class of 1963, dedicate our yearbook to you. 5 '.-.l,w.i.m:tx3,. + , 1 1 Y if', 'V1f:'.f'fW7 ?.f'7'Z 551.3,V.'f ,, ,L ,--f f'ZZ'f41'Rf--1+ -1 , fft en, 1.79, 41.474-f5C'1z',e-'I ff 1: 4' ' f ' ww f f . . . Certainly a high school diploma is gain to you. lt represents potentially b a etter job and a higher salary. It represents qualifications for college entrance or professional training. It represents proof ot ability to achieve and to carry responsibility. Should all this be regarded as loss? Yes, count it as loss to yourself by making it gain for Christ. If your high school diploma opens the way to good employment, it your high school record admits you to college or professional training if your ability and particular gifts are recognized and called for in, the church and in the world, count it all loss for Christ by placing it all at the disposal of His will. Gain to yourself-no. Gain for Christ-yes. Let this be your guiding star in every decision. Lose l'f ' ' ' ' ' ' and in His service. your ie for Christ and you will find it in Him -Richard C. Detweiler 9 In PHI IPM, Harvey W. Bauman Senior Science, Driver Education, Business Math 1 Q 2 3 5 5 5 i 1 l I To the Class of 1963 May the love of God in you and your love for God grow until it abounds and overflows. Overtlowing love, like a river at flood-stage, needs to be kept within limitations. May a deep understanding of truth and a sensitive moral perception become the guiding limitations within which your love abounds. An experience of victory is subject to constant dulling by worldliness. Now, much that is worldly in character is not necessarily evil. May your moral perception become so discriminating that it approves only the most excellent and thus enables you to live only on the highest plane available to you as a saint in Christ. -Mr. Bauman CARROLL MOYER ELEANOR RUTH School Secretary Your attontlon please . . . lrtondly nmtlo lor ovnryom, , . . bn-utr tllul alto volco . . . The duties of this student organization are many. However, it is mainly concerned with transmitting the desires of students into action. lt acts as a representative to the faculty and board and also as the voice of the student body to those outside the school. Student Council serves four areas of school life. lt attempts to stimulate a good social life through the Fellowship Committee, a good spiritual atmosphere through the Religious Life Committee, a Well- balanced athletic program through the Atheltic Committee, and general improvement of school life and campus through the School Improvement Committee. The Executive Committee directs the overall activity of the Council. To our relief Dr. King assured us everything was fine. As we headed for the door, he motioned me aside and whispered, Planet, Magg's everyday routine is too dull. Why not vary it a bit. l, Ianet Leatherman, her personal nurse, suggested traveling and renewing old C D. acquaintances. I sent a telegram to our private pilot, Abie Moyer, and to our mechanic Cliff Mast, asking them to fly immediately to Magg's home in Hawaii. They arrived with .Harley Kooker, and while we packed, they prepared our ship for flight. Our first destination was Iapan, where Glenn Bauman had re- cently set up MCC headquarters. After visiting for half an hour, we crawled back into our space ship. Abie pushed a button, and within five minutes we were chatting with Gloria Detweiler as she supervised her Russian girls' gym class. Gloria told us that lohn Vannoy, a news- paper correspondent to Russia, had departed for Washington, D. C. to see his newborn son. Next we flew to Iordan, where Esther Moyer, a devoted VS'er, greeted us. We shortened our stay as Magg was fatigued and set out for Pisa, Italy, While sightseeing, we noticed a familiar figure near the Leaning Tower of Pisa. To our surprise it was Arlin Landis. We discovered he was on the 12-6 shift which em- ployed men to support the tower. Arlin handed us a magazine, which, to our amazement, contained Esther Iantzen's photo. The article informed us of the discovery of the ll2th element named Iantzeninium. We learned that Esther resided in Home and had recently received the Nobel Prize in physics. Leaving Arlin supporting the tower, we departed for Austria. ln Vienna Lois Guntz guided us through an art exhibition. We gazed at Lois's modern art paintings, and Magg had a sitting with her. Stopping in Switzerland, we received our first lesson in skiing from the well-known instructor, Lois Kulp. A Saturday Evening Post, which Lois received from her parents, provided us with an evening of entertainment. We especially enjoyed the jokes and cartoons by lim Bishop, a greatly loved comic strip writer. An article about the Globetrotters pictured their youngest bachelor member. To our com- plete amazement it was Ed Clemens? The next morning We flew over the crumbling Berlin wall into the united country. Here we viewed the majestic castles and rivers. Three minutes later, in England, we met Louise Meyers, editor of Womans Day. She accompanied us to France, where she was to discuss the latest fashions with Martha Gotwals. ln Paris Martha showed us her luxurious home and office where she spent her time designing fashions for Vogue. Our next visit was in Spain, In the magnificent city of Madrid, Chris Godshall, a governess of a large, wealthy family, welcomed us. In the evening we accepted her offer to see a bull fight. There, in the arena with a vicious looking bull, stood Ed Randolph! After several evening shows we continued our trip by flying over the jungles of Africa into Tanganyika. Here we were warmly welcomed by Marilyn Gehman, an assistant nurse to Mr. and Mrs. Ioseph Shenk. While in Africa we stopped at Nigeria. Ruth Reinford was finding it somewhat difficult getting adjusted to African ways. Prior to this position she had been head nurse at Unionville Home, Hatfield, Pa. We pushed the button for the northern coast of Alaska. Dorothy Kulp and her family entertained us in their igloo. Curiosity overcame most of Dorothy's Eskimo patients, therefore, we had to leave before our space ship was mutilated. In Canada Harold Rosenberger took us to see his victorious hockey team, the Maple Leafs, win again, At the game we unexpectedly had the pleasure of talking with Emer- son Smoker. I-le was on a sick leave from India, where he is a mission- ary mechanic. Planning to travel morexstowly, we entered the States. On the snow-covered mountains of Maine we practiced our skiing. Ruth Moy- er, a business administration teacher, filled our days with excitement as she led us over the steep and dangerous trails, Donning our space suits, we reluctantly instructed Abie to head the ship for Massachu- setts. ln Boston, Polly Alderfer elegantly entertained us in her rambling stone home. Despite our awkward appearance in space suits, Polly made us feel greatly welcome at her many social gatherings. Passing through New York, we stopped to chat with Rodney Groff. He told us many adventurous tales concerning his work with the teenagers of the Bronx. .- f MH ff :Q . We loaded our packages onto the ship and set out lor the Franconia area. where we planned to stop in Elroy to visit Ralph Leatherman at North Penn Hide Company. Abie landed the space ship in the small town ol Elroy. but on stepping out, we discovered we were in Franconia. Ralph lent us his car, and we soon headed lor C D. Here we had a cup ol collee with Paulette Yoder, head cookq Florence Kulp and Elaine Freed, secretaries. and Grace Myers, dietitian. School time memories llooded our minds as we strolled across the greatly enlarged campus. Paul Landis supplied our space ship with lood lrom his recently remodeled grocery store. On Sunday morning we listened to Dave Kolb preach on the street corners ol Danboro and had dinner with his lamily. Due to the Cranberries we ate, the entire crew had slight stomach disturbances, which kept me quite busy. Recovery time was spent circling the earth. Back in orbit again, we picked up Rhoda Benner, a stewardess nurse, who planned to tly to South America with us. Our next stop was on Sam Ruth's prosperous larm in Fleetwood. Early the next morning we spoke with Larry Godshall, a butcher at Hatlield Pack- ing Company. Later we attended a sale given by the only guitar playing auctioneer, Dan Leatherman. Flying over Harleysville, I noticed a large lot ol trucks: we pushed the stop button and investi- gated. Roy Musselman had stepped into his lather's shoes and had become an opulent business man. We completed our tour ol Pennylvania with a visit to Denny a teacher at the State Agriculture College. He told us that was attending Princeton, where he was completing his future evangelistic tours. We delayed a lew hours while with his hair too long lor his space helmet, headed lor Ray's Shop. Harley retumed lrom New Iersey with greetings lrom Derstine. ln Ohio the many children ol Mary-Lou Hunsberger our landing at her cozy house.
