And, yet, the scenes we picture here are not those memories, but only reminders of them. For the most highly treasured moments are deep within our hearts-the memory of a job well done, of a teacher's concern for his pupil, of a friend- ship, warm and pleasant, of a Christian atmosphere pervading a friendly campus. These we cannot picture. To see these you must search your own heart. What we have been in these pages is our Lord's gift to us. What we shall become in the unwritten pages of 1ife's sequel is our gift to Him. i 'sf' Q. 55 We Q4 if we wiwfr it ,-., V Q25 5.51 gwfgf HW Contents Administration I I Seniors I9 Juniors 4 I sophomores 45 Freshmen 49 Activities 53 Sports 67 Advertisements 83 it ' i agent 'Qf f'W5i, Mr. Duane Kauffman DEDICATIO During our years at Christopher Dock, you have, as class adviser, continually sought to make our high school years inter- esting and enjoyable. What would you do? This is an hypothetical ques- tion. But suppose you were given forty-two more years, nearly nineteen thousand days, or approximately two hundred eighty-five thousand waking hours. What would you do? Suppose you were given a being that had Within it life, a mind, and a soul that would exist eternally. What would you do? Suppose you were given a home of your own and a family of your own. What would you do? And, finally, suppose God would ask that all that He has given you be given back to Him. What will you do? For this is now your question. R. C. The evening air is filled with excitement as the class of 1962 gathers once more on C.D.'s picturesque campus. Everyone has been eagerly awaiting this reunion of old friends and classmates. The warm glow from the outdoor lamp silhouettes the familiar landscape, bidding to each a silent greeting. The hum of voices inside is reminiscent of previous socials during school days. In one corner Mr. Kauffman argues the political issues of the day with history professor James Halteman. Harry King joins the conversation by commenting on the high tariff recently placedion the kangaroos he imports from Australia. The recent arrival of triplets gives Emilie Derstine the urgent need of consolation from Sara Lapp, who is already well-experi- enced in such matters. Since Lorraine Derstine has accepted the position of a schoolbus driver, she has become quite adept in handling juvenile problems, and therefore offers her advice to Emilie. Esther Frederick explains that her smaller family allowed her opportunity to become a part-time seamstress. Across the room stand two world-renowned men, inventor Lester Kolb and scientist Victor Myers. Mr. Kolb has almost per- suaded Mr. Myers to test his newest invention, a noiseless alarm clock. Glenn Kriebel, a minister, and Jerome Yoder have just arrived and joined the group. When someone notices Jerome shivering and asks why he doesn't remove his coat, he replies that he has just returned from South America, where he has been serving as a missionary, and isn't accustomed to the colder climate. Gerry Clemmer is describing to Ruth Kulp, a fashion designer, some striking oriental styles she noticed on her trip around the world. Mary Lou Weaver, outstanding journalist of Monday Morn- ing Post, takes this opportunity to schedule an interview with Gerry for an article about her trip. This means that Lucille Clem- mer, as Miss Weaver's typist, will be busy with another big assign- ment. She is in friendly competition with Bette Derstine, the typist who has recently set the world record speed at 225 words per minute. Amidst the chatter, registered nurse Elaine Kulp rushes to Dr. Herbert Myers, and tells him that Donna Bishop is feeling ill. By the time they return, Donna has fainted. Rhoda Alderfer, Dr. Myers' receptionist, offers her assistance as the class gathers around. However, Dr. Myers soon succeeds in reviving Donna. She then assures everyone that she feels better now and explains that she hasn't been well since she returned from Korea, serving there as an industrious social worker. Everyone's attention is drawn to the entrance as two more people arrive. The class is glad to see that Eddie Alderfer, ski- instructor at his ski-resort, and Judy Schmell are able to lay aside their skiing and come to the social. Judy quickly explains that her broken arm is the result of falling off the ski-lift. Now everyone gathers for the program. To begin, the class president, Professor Halteman, reads a letter from Carol Beck, who wrote saying she is sorry she couldn't be here, but is enjoying immensely her missionary work in Japan. He also mentioned that Gladys Derstine, nurse on night duty at Grand View hospital, Charlotte Kolb and Carol Kindy, school teachers in northern Canada, likewise could not attend because of their respective duties. Just for old times' sake, four fellows whistle Michael This quartet is made up of the following: Jim Landis, a butcher who had formed the J Sz L Meat Company, with Jim Leatherman as his truck driver, Vernon Nyce, TWA Airplane Pilot-incidently, Nancy Mininger is an airline stewardess for the same organization, Rich Bechtel, a grocery clerk, and Jim Zeiset, a radio disc jockey. Ronald Detweiler entertains the group by giving an account of his balloon trip into space for weather observations. Last on the program, the famous psychiatrist, Dr. Phillip Moyer, gives a demonstration of hypnotism by putting Helen Delp into a trance. She has just finished composing her latest piece, Symphony 315, Aii Minor, part of which she played in the air at Dr. Moyer's suggestion. As the class enters the cafeteria for refreshments, Kenny Kolb and Bob Chittick present to a group of their classmates an account of their recent fishing trip. Kenny adds that this was the first time he hadn't gotten seasick. Everyone is sorry that Miriam Bauman has to leave the social early. She has learned by experience in teaching that grading papers takes a good deal of time. Going through the refreshment line, the class is greeted by Sylvia Moyer, our hostess. Her job as telephone operator has sharp- ened her ability to chatter. Esther Stoltzfus brought one of her own beautiful floral arrangements made in her own florist shop. Also Lorraine Alderfer, still employed at the Mart making hoagies, very deftly serves our pie. Noah Kolb concludes that the coffee is quite good, coming from him, that is quite a compliment, since he's a coffee taster in Brazil. The social ends all too soon, but this short time together has not only revived past memories, but also added to our store of pleasant memories for the future. The touring chorus was given many opportunities this year to express their talents in music and worship God. Throughout the year it presented various programs for congregations of the surrounding area. Attending a music festival at Belleville highlighted the chorus' experiences. Other high schools to participate were: Central Christian, Belleville, Johnstown, and East- ern Mennonite. The festival, the first of its kind, did not involve corn- petition but accomplished much through the sharing of talents, friendships, and problems confronting these schools. Each chorus sang individually and also in a mass chorus directed by J. Mark Stauffer. Nearer the end of the season, the chorus toured Ver- mont, only to find that winter was not in the past as they had supposed it to be. Besides helping each chorus member to grow spiritually, socially, and intellectualy, it broadened his View of the church. Long Island, New York Andover.
