BP Miss Pearl Schrack the senlors of Chrlstophe of 1960, dedicate our Dear Semors. The gift without the giver is baref, The coming years will record your usefulness. Your worth will be determined more by what you are than by what you have or do. This means that the important goal of your life is to grow to be the person God has in mind. Only then will your doing be worthwhile - to God, to others, to yourself. Any 'Lgift without the giver is bare and wasted. May God make your life and then make it useful. Sincerely, Richard C. But fortune wasn't smiling on the lecturer, for, in the snow on the night before the program, her 'cbugw skidded into a telephone pole. It so happened the pole was in front of John Merrill Souder's farm, and after being invited to spend the night there, she tried to call the local garage owned by Carl Keeler. By some ill turn of luck, Hannah Mack, the ex- citable telephone operator, got the connections mixed and when the bachelor residence of Elvin Kolb received a call from Miss Schrack, its occupant was so confused he promptly hung up. Carl Keeler finally received the call and promised to fix the car. Miss Schraek spent an enjoyable evening listening to the radio, especially the guitar music by Wesley Clemmer and news commentator Louise Myers' 'LViews on the News. The program was interrupted by the jangling telephone. Earl God- shall's steers got out. Could John Merrill come and help find them? Early next morning Paul Shislcr, local newspaper pho- tographer, arrived on the scene of the ill-fated VW and had an interview with Miss Schraek.Upon Paul's advice, Miss Schrack accompanied him to the doctor's office for a check-up. ln Doc- tor Harold Kooker's office she met chemist Sam Kulp with a bandaged hand because of an explosion at a demonstration at the local school. The doctoris emergency nurse, Rhoda Moyer, was leaving and Mary Kratz, the day nurse, was taking over. Mean- while Mr, Shisler rushed to the news office to give editor Katherine Horst the latest news so Elaine Ruth could type it in time for that day's paper. His duty done, Mr. Shisler hurried to Bruce Leatherman's barber shop where Ernest Greaser, the local philosopher and politician, was explaining why the Re- publicans won the elections. Richard Weaver, sports car salesman, upon hearing of the damaged VW determined to boost his sales that month. Weaver sauntcred down to the drugstore to think up a sales talk just as Rhoda Detwiler rushed in to counter duty. They gabbed for almost an hour about recent happenings with Lois Mininger, the pharmicistress. After her check-up, Miss Schrack registered at Allebaclfs Hotel and recognized the receptionist as Judy Moyer. W'hile shopping in the remainder of the morning, she met ,Ioan, with w Y? lX1f . five children trailing after her, and Gloria, with four holding on to her. This was at Ronald Nycc's grocery store, and the cashier, Rachel Alderfer, was having a hard time trying to cheek out because of the many children. Miss Schraek decided to start to leave because of the population problem and strolled into Brunner's Restaurant for lunch. She had an enjoyable hour discussing teaching problems with teachers Freida Meyers and Miriam Meyers. They took her to the high school where the evening lecture was to be heldg but when they arrived, the plumber Merrill Landes explained that the lecture eouldnit be held due to Sam Kulp's explosion. As she went past Principal Mae Reinford's office, she overheard Miss Reinford instructing phys. ed. teachers Arlene Alderfer and Glen Landis on better techniques for class. She then went to the nearest phone booth to call Robert Allehach for the use of the hotel reception room for her lecture. Sud- denly she remembered she had torn the dress she planned to wear to the lecture and hurried with it to the tailoris. There she found Phyllis Hunsberger, who agreed to mend l1er dress right awayg and Janet Freed, who was giving Jeanette Derstine some advice on tailoring. Soon a tired Miss Schrack was wand- ering back to the hotel thinking of the events and shocks of the day. At the Hotel everything was rushed. Elaine Moyer, cook, and Geraldine Freed, dietician, ran out of turkeys, but thanks to Longacre and Zook's Poultry Place turkeys ceased to be a problem. Secretary Mary Nice was taking orders being phoned in while Anna Lois Longacre was putting the finishing touches on the decorations of the reception room. The waitress,Miriam Kolb, was scurrying around trying to serve everyone before the program started, besides trying to listen to Dolores God- shallis and Lois Alderfer's experiences of VS in California. At 7:30 that evening the- whole town turned out for the lecture. Master of ceremonies, Bob Allebach, welcomed everyone and Pastor Larry Kulp rendered the invocation. Ruth Ann Landis, famous pianist recently returned from Europe, played several of her own compositions. Finally Miss Schrack's lecture was given. Everyone applauded and congratulated her afterward. Late that night a happy and satisfied Miss Schrack drove off in a new ear from Weaver Motors,Inc.,leaving her old one behind with students of long ago to symbolize the old days gone by and the future happiness and success. .4, A 'Sami V rkwf -ri is 4 7 I' 3, . The responsibilities of Student Council are undertaken in ' i two ways: committee work and general discussion. H in It r I I Each C0ll1Il1lllCC plans and carries out the activities of the school which come under its particular area. General assemblies of the council give opportunity for dis- cussion of pertinent problems, culminating with an approved plan for action. A weekly discussion in each grade provides a plehiscite to representatives of Student Council. Witli thc gracious eo-operation of the faculty and adminis- tration, Student Council can develop responsibility alld confi- dence in Christopher Dock. s'l'ANnlNc:: Harold Hooker, Seated left to right: Mr, Kauffman, Lorraine Kratz, Larry Kulp, Luis Aldcrfer.
