5 1 I 1 6 . 3 1 2 1 I . . ll M .Q- i JJ presenting ihe Schul-Andenken P ublishecl by The Senior Class of 1956 5 3 i THIS WE REMEMBER FOREWORD The present, according to an -old proverb, is that fleeting moment between what has already happened and what is yet to be. Our todays soon fade into the enveloping anonymity of yesterday, but in the process they become not less dear to us. Rather, the treasured memories of what has been taken on added meaning. Between these covers we have attempted to capture that evan- escent present moment and preserve its memory for that time in the future when we shall want to muse on things we remember. WE DEDICATE To our principal, Richard C. DeTweiler, beloved Teacher, esTeemed churchman, capable adminisTer and friend, we dedicaTe This yearbook as a Token of our respecT Tor your conTribuTion noT only To The cause of ChrisTian educaTion buT To us personally. The imprinT of your characTer shall remain wiTh us as a consTanT reminder of The immuTabIe principle ThaT life is worTh living only insofar as iT is lived in service To God and our Tellowmen. WE REMEMBER . . . Brown class-recorol books, casual manner, faculty table. We remember old Chevies, Doclges, or Fords. We remember school-clay-out, never-won sports contests, and a faculty quartet. We remember counselors, acl- visors, friends. And in our hearts we breathe our prayer of thanks to Him who made some teachers. ADMINIS ATION Left to right Ralph Hedrick, Paul Clemens, Paul Godshall, Jacob Rittenhouse, Paul Longacre, Norman Bechtel Raymond Rosenberger David Derstine. BOARD OF TRUSTEES Dear Students, Parents and Friends: Speaking for the Board I would say that our goal under God is to staff and equip our school in such a way that each graduate becomes a well-rounded Christian, that each may be able to fit into any life situation with the good news, with the healing balm, and with the enduring hope which is in Christ Jesus Our Lord. ls there any better way to measure the success of Christopher Dock Menno- nite School than to count the number of times that its graduates fill situations in this manner-and anywhere in the world? Results such as these will permit us to say with the Apostle Paul, But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumph, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere. ll Cor. 2:14, R.S.V. PAUL R. CLEMENS President Left to right: Daniel Reinford, Richard Deiweiler, Edwin Alderfer. ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE Dear Seniors, Who knoweth whether thou art came to the kingdom for such a time as this. Esther 4:l4b. ' There will never be another 1956 graduating class at Christopher Dock. There will never be another first graduating class to represent our school. You enioy a unique position in the beginning history of your alma mater. You are the first to face the test as to whether Christopher Dock exper- ience and training will stand up under the pressure of life. Furthermore, you are now charter alumni members upon whom your school will increasingly depend for its contact and acceptance with the community and church. You are the first ambassadors with full credentials to represent Christopher Dock to our constituency and beyond. Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ might be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. ll Thess. lnl l-12. SENIORS CLASS POEM UNTO GOD! 'Twas evening, when I rose to walk amidst the silent trees, My restless spirit spurred me on, but i grew faint, and fell upon my knees Oh God, where is the peace of mind promised to my heart? Have I not done Thy holy will? I saw His hands outstretched to me, He in them held a rusty key. I took the key, 'twas then I saw the door to SERVICE open to all. I entered, yet two doors I saw with paths so often trod. The one was labeled UNTO MAN, the other UNTO GOD. I stood and gazed upon the one, that one as dark as night, but then I saw the other, which to me looked warm and bright. I took my key, and opened wide the door to service UNTO GOD, and there I met the classmates who with me the paths of service trod. There we beheld His blessed face and arms yet still outstretched, but then, below, we saw the many souls of people yet unreached. We heard the call, we saw the need, much work must yet be done. We'll take our keys and place them in the hand of God's dear Son. He'll smile upon us, and He'll know we'll strive to do our part with all our soul, and strength, and might, yes, even with our heart. And now as life before us waits we know which path we all must take. UNTO GOD we came, He heard our plea, we now to Him must yielded be. Lord, grant that as we follow Thee through paths though yet untrod. Our goal may always clearer be - we live not unto man, but UNTO GOD. - Marie Gehman Class motto: Unto God! Class colors: maroon and white Class flower: crimson rose CLASS WILL Eileen Alderfer wills to Paul Clemens her fairness and shortness in stature. Grace Alderfer's prowess in baking is wished upon open-handed Glenn Freed. David Brunner wills his adeptness to die deutsche Sprache to John Derstine. Suzanne Christophel Turns over her job as soprano soloist plus all other music interests to Glenn Frederick. Arlene Clemens devises her ability in the Home Economics Department to Louise Derstine. ' Jon Clemens' leadership abilities in class meetings and all of the senior class' ioys and sorrows are handed to the following class president. Mary Clemens leaves her love of the symphony to musically-declined Joe Cressman. Edna Derstine thoughtfully wills the security of going steady to Leon Alderfer. Eleanor Derstine doesn't think Clayt Gotwals will be quite capable of handling her 8 passenger, but says it will hold more than an Austin. Marie Gehman is sorrowfully willing to give her past driving experiences to Beulah Moyer, or any iunior who is new at the wheel. Alma Halteman leaves a few of her A averages to Wilbur Kriebel, Walter Histand, and company. Kathleen Harley bequeathes her ability at the piano to Sam Lapp and Harold Alderfer. Marilyn Kriebel desires Edith Derstine to take over her iob of waiting on teachers at noon. Daniel Lapp gives his humility dealing with basketball to Mr. Hess who may divide it with the iuniors. Mary Mack's habit of paying attention to Mr. Hershey in chorus shall be given exclusively to Jacob Rittenhouse. David Meyers, who so easily sees the humorous side of things, gives this gift to serious-minded Eleanor Detweiler. Ivan Moyer leaves his ability to speak in public to Betty Gehman for all future senior speaking appointments. Mary Rittenhouse willingly bundles her love for cats together with all of her shyness and sends it special delivery to Carrie Noble. Esther Ruth's talent in art with a few added farm chores mixed in shall be evenly' divided between Audrey Metz and Rachel Meyers. John Ruth would like Ruth Beryle Martin to accept his hearty-deep-throated laugh in substitution for her dainty bird-like giggle. Wilson Swartley realizes that his dislike for English is nothing to be proud of, but doesn't think Grace Meyers will mind. Mary Emma Yothers leaves her quietness in class to Warren Grasse. slamons 1.
