WE TAKE OVER Each year, 365 days pass by wifh procfically every one of fhem dedicafed fo eifher some well deserving cause, insfifufion, person or some insignificanf occasion which numerous organizafions may feel deserving of such an honor. There is a day for groundhogs, mofhers, flags, fafhers, lovers, laborers, and o hosf of ofhers. How- ever, American High School Seniors, who unquesfionably confribufe largely fo our populafion, have consfanfly remained neglecfed and forgoffen when fhese various days are allofed. This disasfrous oversighf and neglecf can be affribufed fo several facfors. ln all probabilify, fhose governmenf officials responsible for fhe naming and disfribufion of nafional holidays are possessed wifh fhe idea fhaf seniors are unimporfanf, inferior, and a fhreaf fo fhe well-being of our American Sociefy. Obviously, fhey are misin- formed. If we seniors are fo achieve success, we musf alfer fheir beliefs and ideas regarding fhe imporfance and necessify of High School Seniors in America. Af presenf, various American High Schools have affempfed fo remedy fhis sifuafion by designafing one day each ferm fo fhe seniors. However, fhis has been a localized holiday observed by fhe senior populafion of one parficular school, rafher fhan a nafional holiday observed by all seniors of all high schools. A good example of such a day is Blue Leffer Day, in which all fun loving Columbus seniors parficipafe in fhe acfivifies of fhe day. However, fhe anfics and facfics of fhese seniors musf nof be confined fo a limifed locafion, buf displayed fhroughouf fhe nafion. The reason for fhis is quife obvious. The imporfance of fhe Senior in carrying on American cul- fure would become evidenf. No one could deny him fhe many righfs fo which he is enfifled. We musf sfarf by geffing all High School Seniors fo unife fo form fhe AFHSS, lAmerican Federafion of High School Seniorsl. This organizafion could very well prove fo be a fremendously beneficial agenf for spreading our ideas and beliefs concerning fhe righfs of seniors. If could hire o congressional lobbyisf fo furfher our efforfs for fhe acquisifion of a Senior Day. The mere formafion of fhe AFHSS would prove fo fhe American people fhaf we are defermined fo have Our Day. Once Senior Day has been esfablished, fhe resf is easy. On fhaf day fhe presi- denf, fhe represenfafives, Cabinef Members, sfafe and federal officials and numerous ofher posfs concerned wifh fhe formofion and passage of laws in fhis counfry would be placed in fhe hands of various elecfed seniors. A legislafive program would be iammed fhrough. Perhaps fhe number of school days would be decreased fo fhree or four days per week, homework and fesfs would be given only when a fhree-fourfhs affirmafive vofe of fhe class members has been received, school would begin af an hour some- whaf more suifable fo fhe sleeping habifs of seniors, and a monefary subsidy could be granfed fo seniors who are in need of an increased amounf of spendable currency. On fhis day, fhe Presidenf mighf very well be a close friend of yours, fhe Secre- fary of Healfh, Educafion and Welfare, especially educafion, may very well furn ouf fo be an associafe of yours. The chairman of fhe Board of Educafion could very well be you. As mofhers and fafhers are respecfed and remembered on fheir day, lef 'fhe seniors be respecfed and remembered on fhis day. As fhe laborers are given a day of relaxafion from fheir work, lef fhe seniors have fheir day of resf and relaxafion from fheir hard job of school life. We musf have a Nafional Senior Day!
