on campus Between the classes and the weekend dates, between the apartment parties and the walks to town comes that ephemeral and self-perpetuating interim known, as campus life. The faces, the sights, the sounds of a moment's passing.. .the punctuation of each hour with the clanging of a warning bell . . .the sleepy silence of the long walk to eight o'clock class. . .the ritual of the daily watch over the long rows of empty cubicles in a restless wait for the morning's mail ...the crowded Tea Room in the ten o'clock rush hour . . . a long morning and an even longer afternoon ...an hour's break from classes, a peaceful stroll in the warmth of the afternoon sun. The moment's pause for reflection and the day's activity has not yet ended . . . the special events, hours of study at the library. . .closing hours and the coming ofthe night. The campus is still, silently preparing itself for the beginning of the new day. A moment, an hour slips by. . .a day, a month caug tup inthe endless cycle.
