The football season of 1953 is one that will long be remembered by all Central students and supporters. After scoring a tie in their first game with a fighting Helena squad, Central went on to perform a feat that had been long awaited by their friends and supporters- Before a crowd of over 10,000 people, Central delivered to Butte High a stunning blow, in beating them for the first time in 28 years. A most-successful Class A season followed this, and on November 13th, hundreds of local supporters boarded a special train for Glendive and the championship game. Although they were unsuccessful in retaining the state title in Glendive, the team dis- played a fighting spirit which won them the admiration of both the Central and Glendive fans. It was this spirit which highlighted a most successful gridiron season for Central.

Pictured above is the team that beat Butte High in 1925 with a score of 120 The article in the 1926 Centra1ite holds true now as well as then in saying, -the hill squad outplayed Butte in every department of the game. The credit for these two victories goes first to the two wonderful young coaches, Steve Sullivan and Jim Sweeney, and the tremendous spirit of the teams. May we resort to a cheer in asking Jim Sweeney to repeat the performance many times in the years to come. Hit 'em again! Harder, Harder!
