6 WRESTLING The wrestling team, under the guidance of Brother Joseph, had a very successful season in 1977-1978. The team was able to reach the regionals, and they came away with fifth place. We also sent six wrestlers to the state, among these were: Bob Wilson, Paul Averwater, Carl Pfeiffer, Walt Walton, John Gross, and Brian 0'Donnell. A record was set this year also, as Paul Averwater wrestled in more state matches than any previous Purple Wave body-slammer. Under the excellent guidance of Coach Frank Horton, the 1977 Cross Country Team proved to be one of the most Jowerful squads the school has ever seen. Team depth proved to be the deciding factor in most of the Brothers' meets. Uaced by juniors Chris Ozanne and Tim Soro and sophomore Lawson Horton, the winged runners bolted through the 'egular season with a five and one record, including an M.I.A.A. American Conference Championship-the tirst in the :chool's history. Also, the team fared well in several prestigious invitatlonals held throughout Memphis and West Tennessee. With all lettermen returning, next year's 1978 team should go a long way.
