The boys and the whole student body were eager and hopeful of the coming season. No one ever suspected how wonderful it would really be. On December 2, the season started with a victory over Kansas City Southwest. This marked the beginning of a memorable season, the best in the history of C.B. and the best in the history of St. J oseph. The foes began to fall right and left. Soon all the area teams began to realize that C.B. wasn't having a streak of luck. They came gunning for us and did all in their power to over- throw us. Still C.B. rolled on! We ended up having beaten Kansas City Lincoln twice, who finished second in the Interscholastic League in Kansas City, Wathena fell to us twice, and last but not least, Central fell by the wayside 3 times. The Golden Eagles won their own Tournament competing against 16 teams. They took second in the Blue Springs Tournament, and they went through the City League race undefeated. Then came the Regional Tournament, climaxed by an exciting final game against Central. In this game the boys really proved themselves. No true C.B. fan will ever forget that game, the noisy cheering, the close game, the unde- finable thrill that came over us when the final gun sounded. We really grew to appreciate our fine team that memorable night. Hats off to the cheering section also. They had been hit and miss all season, but they really found themselves that night. When the dust had cleared, the team rightfully found themselves on their way to St. Louis for the State Tournament. After handily defeating Sikeston and West Plains, the Golden Eagles lost in the semi-finals to a strong Beaumont five. Beaumont went on to win the State Title. C.B. ended in fourth place. Great tribute must be given to Coach Modde who taught the team to work together, and work together they did, as their record proves. Let us hope the spirit of the Eagles will prevail in the years to come and the rousing chant Go Eagles Go will be echoed throughout the State!
