Through his teaching and under- standing counsel, he advised us on how to face up to the world. Throughout his life he gave these gifts to many thousands of boys. But we were honored to be the parta-ker of an even greater gift. With a silent courage, born of the knowl- edge of God, Brother Maurelian gave us a lesson in how to die. By his example of faith and hope in adversity, and his charity towards his fellow men, he taught us how to return to our Father. We hope that this memory of courage and faith may be remembered by us all at our own moment of death. Quincy 12 CBC 34 Sumner 7 CBC 20 Assumption 0 CBC 7 SLUH 6 9-0-0 18 in a row '62-'63 Eqftem Smight Gamea This year's team led by Tom Gold, who was selected on the All-American High School second team, compiled a winning record of 9 wins and no losses. Also it extended the Cadets winning string to 18 games. Starting off with McKinley, the Goldbugs bowed 20-0 to a hard hitting Cadet offense and a strong defense. Next in line was tough Southwest who gave the Cadets a scare, but that was all as the Cadets again came through 18-14. Following Southwest was Vianney whom the Cadets took handily 40-0. Then came the Bulldogs from Sumner, who after taking an early lead on the first play of the game, succumbed to a spirited Cadet team 34-7. Following this came the big game against highly rated Alton, but the Cadets proved too much for the Redbirds as CBC won 7-0. Then the Micks from McBride invaded Cadet terri- tory only to be turned back 7-0. Next the Cadets iourneyed to Quincy for a game against the CB Raiders and came up with another victory 27-12. After this the Cadets were back home again, this time facing Assump- tion, but again the Cadets came out on top by a score of 20-0. Now the Cadets were 8-O for the year and had won 17 in a row. They held the area's longest winning streak and one more victory would give them their second undefeated season in a row. They wanted it and they got it. THEY TOOK A VICTORY FROM THE BABY BILLS from Oakland Avenue by a score of 7-6. All-in-all it was a great season for a great team. The Bee team under the great coaching of Mr. Robert Christian compiled a record of five wins, one loss and one tie. Teamwork ioined by power and the desire to win were the keys to the CADETS victories. This team, with the spirit that they have shown, should add much to the great tradition of past C.B.C. teams. This description of the most familiar combination of the Cadet fast break will go down in the history of CBC as the most exciting ploy of the T963 State Championship basketball team. lt all started at the Clayton Regionals where CBC took on Clayton, Webster Groves, and then scored the upset of the year over number one rated Maplewood. The Washington U. field house was the next stopping point, where CBC took on Pattonville, put them down, and headed for Kansas City. Here in K.C., the first victim was the Kansas City Southeast Knights, and after this victory, CBC was the only team from St. Louis in the tournament. Springfield Central was the opponent for CBC in the semi-finals. CBC came out on top with a 53-48 victory. Then the big game, it was CBC against the Jeff. City Jays. The Jay's star, Ronnie Coleman, later voted M.V.P. of the tournament, was the big concern of the CBC cagers. Tom McCoy took the assignment and held Coleman to his tournament low of 17, and the Cadets won 47-38. CBC gained the State title for the third time in five years and brought the trophy back home to CBC. O Lv . This years Bee team had another excellent season compiling a record of 12 wins against only five losses. Teamwork along with a great desire by each player produced as fine a quintet as could be found anywhere in the St. Louis area. Although this team lost a few heartbreakers during the season they wound up winning their last six ballgames, among which was a 52-5'l win over powerful Hadley. The swimmers hit times that were as good or better than times hit by teams in the past but it seems that other schools which have their own pools seem to have a big advantage over our team. However, highlights in the season were the lowering of records in the 160 yard, individual medley and the 200 yard individual medley, plus a new record in the 400 yard swim. At the start of the season prospects for success were dim, this was to be a rebuilding year for Mr. Hor- gan's charges. Playing with championship form throughout the season the team came through with results which even surprised Mr. Horgan. ln addition to beating S.L.U.H. two out of three times the team also tied for the League Championship. The offensive squad, led by senior Jack Deck and iunior Rick Nelke scored l26 goals. This year the team was lucky to have two-way man Tom Monk Marshall available for duty on both offensive and defensive. The defense was exceptionally tough this season allowing only 17 goals in 30 games. For many years the Benildus Club has been successful in laying a foun- dation of religious strength on which to build a vocation. While keeping this goal in mincl this year's club was composed of two groups. The first were those who wished to be active members, they formed the Catholic Action committees. The other group were those who wished to at- tend the meetings and say the re- quired prayers, they were then known as associate members. It is this type of improvement which helps to make Benildus Club a valuable asset the to CBC. ,-.
