LOUIS 17, MISSOURI xxx FOREWORD STANDING ON THE THRESHOLD OF LIFE'S GREATEST CHALLENGE, WE, THE SENIORS OF CHRISTIAN BROTHERS COL- LEGE, WISH TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE FOR THE EDUCATION AND GUIDANCE WE HAVE RECElVED DURING THE PAST FOUR YEARS. THROUGH THE EXPERT ASSISTANCE OF THE CHRISTIAN BROTHERS, THE LAY FAC- ULTY, AND THE MILITARY DEPARTMENT, WE HAVE PROGRESSED MENTALLY, SPIR- ITUALLY, AND PHYSICALLY. WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND VALU- ABLE EXPERIENCE ACQUIRED AT CBC, WE PLUNGE INTO LIFE'S SEA OF JOYS AND SORROWS, CONFIDENT THAT WE WILL OVERCOME ALL OBSTACLES TO OUR GREATEST AMBITIONS. J SFC KENNETH MUELLER xxx DEDICATION Rare is the man that takes such om immense interest in a school and its activities as did SFC Kenneth Mueller during his three years at CBC. In addition to performing his duties as Military instructor, Sarge was President of our Legion of Mary, moderator of the Rifle Team, and an active supporter of every CBC athletic event. Because of his outstanding display of interest in our of- fairs, we dedicate the 1962 GUIDON to Sergeant Mueller in a sincere effort to acknowledge our appreciation. His Eminence the Most Reverend Joseph Cardinal Ritter, STD Archbishop of Saint Louis His Excellency the Most Reverend Glennon P. Junior varsity membership is open to all except seniors. Varsity membership is granted to all who can maintain a high average. The team practices three times a week. TEAM WORK, GUTS, SPIRIT GAVE SUCCESS McKinley Goldbugs, Southwest, and the Ladue Rams fell before the Cadets' flashing attack and stubborn defense. C8 of Quincy proved an easy conquest; and then Assumption, the best of East St. Louis, and the Kirkwood Pioneers bit the dust. The following week the Cadet gridders smashed a great Normandy team, turned around and did the some to the St. Mel Knights of Chicago, called one of the best teams assembled in that area. The papers reported the next game: CBC CADETS STAGGER SLUH. There was no question about it. The Cadets mastered the Baby Bills by fast, alert ball handling and stopped the SLUH attack with crisp blocking and cracking tackles, evidence of the fine work done by our two fine coaches: Mr. Jack Kersting and Mr. Bill Gerdemonn. Teamwork, the wotchword of success, was the one thing which experts pointed 'out as the big reason for the triumph of the Cadets. Individual guts and drive by every man of the squad mode this fabulous 84 spirit and record possible- Storting Seniors that we can thank for this are: Carl Gentile, Mike Betta, George Tompras, Bob McKendry, Jim Hersh, Charlie Pulloro, George Buys, and Bob Proost. The Codets' ripping attack was spearheaded by Ali-State back Carl Gentile. On his heels was Junior Tom Gold. Many times muscular fullback Bob Proost came through with a smashing drive when the Cadets' needed a fast five yards. Senior halfback Dick O'Brien is another fine star who added greatly to CB's fearsome five. Charlie Pulloro, the Cadet signal caller, mentioned for district honors, was the backbone of the Codets' attack. Bill Griffin, Charlie's understudy, has some mighty big shoes to till next year. We want to thank you men for your great effort. Words cannot come to express our deep appreciation for your iob well done and the pride we hold in our hearts for CB's UNDEFEATED FOOTBALL CHAMPS. The team proceeded to wend its way to another winning season, just another one of many for our fine Varsity coach, Mr. D. C. VVilcutt. Alternating between forward and center, 6' 4 Wilt Stauder proved to be the mainstay of the Cadet's offense, consistently scoring more than 20 points a game. Blessed with height and being a tremendous iumper, t92, Mohrmann scores on an easy iayup. Mike has a bright athletic future ahead of him. John Kilo, and Jim Gummersbach, sometimes spared by Tom Hunter, have done their usually excellent defensive job this year and, if possible, have improved their hot shoot- ing. Promising Sophomore Joe Robinson came around very well in the latter part of the season, starting at center against SLUH at Oakland. He has again formed 11 men into a driving unit, cast in victory and galvanized in spirit. Some people say that the players alone are responsible for the team's record. But this must be a fallacy because since this likable son of the Emerald Isles has come to CBC, he has engineered hundreds of victories. But, of course, he alone is not responsible for this fabulous success. He has been lucky to have been blessed with many fine stars, the most recent of which we are honoring here. First and foremost must come Carl Gentile, who has successively set and shattered again his own scoring record. Another standout, who although he serves on defense, is none the less valuable than the finest forward. Of course, this star is Bob Proost. Other senior bright spots in the line-up are John Nelke, Dan O'Neil, xJohn Moore, Ed Clear, and, of course, Mr. Horgan's fine goalie, Tom Van Rhein. Tom was off with a flying start toward another great season, but he suffered a broken arm. His job was taken over by Kevin O'Connell, who did a very fine job. St. Louis is a soccer town and the Cadets have certainly lived up to and helped to earn this reputation. Their motto is simple: ATTACK. The Hornets play the greater maiority of games in the opponents back yard. Examples of typical scores are 4-1, 6-0, 7-2, or 5-1. As you can see, Mr. Horgan is a firm believer in the theory that the best defense is a fine offense. We wish to offer our best wishes to Mr. Horgan and the departing Seniors; 0 fine job done by fine men. Congratulations, men, and thanks for upholding one of the greatest soccer traditions ever formed. 95 Bob Proosf, outstanding defensive half- back. Is known throughout soccer circles as a fine dependable star. Carl Gentile, record breaking star forward. Has broken and successively sef his own scoring record. In its fifth year of existence the Stu- dent Loan Association of CBC has gained the unique reputation as the only success- ful Student Bank in the country. The Stu- dent Bonk, run smoothly by its president, Bob Edler, has continued in its fine tradi- tion again this year and has built up its already strong foundation, which will enable our bank to serve the students of CBC for many years to come. With an even larger Bank Board, the student now receives better service. Convenient terms and low interest rates encourage students to take out loans and all the facilities in the Bank are there for the convenience of the student. , R'ijtt George Buy's, George Whitwonh, and Doug OttenIips process a loan.
