MA tory 0 the C7444 o 1949 By Cadet Colonel Wllbert I Henko Several years ago the 49ers as freshmen havlng been 1nsp1red by the accomplrshments of the forego1ng classes determrned to surpass these feats They then set the1r goal ar1d for the next four years worked towards 1t Each of the ensu1ng years was frlled w1th thrrlls and experrences as well as w1th problems wh1ch had to be overcome However the Class of 49 not only faced the en1gma but solved them And now on the threshold of l1fe that class IS deter mmed to graduate 1r1 the best Senlor Class Wllh a record that long w1ll be coveted by future graduates of CB C Though he has part1c1pated 1n many QCl1V1l19S the sen1or s thoughts always centered around the classroom Cons1stently placlng a large percent age of 1ts members on the Honor Roll the class has set a record of wh1ch 1t may well be proud Largest enrollment 1n the Nat1onal Honor Socrety rn the school s h1story attest to the scholarly leanlngs of the Class of 49 Rehgron plays an 1mportant role 1n the datly l1fe of a successful student at C BC Throughout the day he 1S rem1nded of th1s by the r1ng1ng of the hourly and half hourly bells and the fam1l1ar 1nvocat1on Let us remember we are m the holy presence of God The p1nnacle of the rel1g1ous element IS reached at the Student Retreat wh1ch eases our m1nds and bnngs us closer to God Here as well as 1n the varrous rel1g1ous act1v1t1es such as the Blessed Bemldus Vocat1on Club and the Archconfratermty of the DIVIHG Ch1ld the SGHIOI has shown the thoroughness of h1s rel1g1ous tra1n1ng by h1s cooperatron 1n furthenng the1r ObJGCl1VGS Neatness and prof1c1ency exemplary of the sen1or are among the ch1ef characterrstrcs of a CBC cadet Contrnumg 1n the spxnt of h1s pre decessors the sen1or has ralsed the prest1ge of the school by acqu1r1ng the h1ghest award of the Army for a Iunror R O T C Un1t H1ghl1ght of the m1l1tary year was the Annual Federal lnspectlon for wh1ch the off1cers and non-coms labored so arduously to ma1nta1n the h1gh standards for wh1ch the school IS so well noted Ioumal1st1c talents of the Class of 1949 are demonstrated 1n the two student publ1cat1ons The Turret and The Gurdon Under the able superv1s1on of Brother Hubert Gerard the paper has conslstently won h1gh honors The yearbook a treasury of memor1es and faces IS one of the more GIllSl1C publ1cat1ons 1n the c1ty Any student who has mus1cal ab1l1ty whether 1t be lnstrumental or vocal has an opportumty to pursue lhlS avocatlon by supportmg the Concert Band or Choral Club Followmg graduatron of the en1ors both w1ll suffer great losses masmuch as many of the key pos1t1ons l1'1 them are held by sen1ors The clrmax of the1r endeavors IS reached rn the annual Spnng Concert a masterp1ece of beauty Th1s year a Varrety Club wh1ch cons1sted of much of the talent of the school was organrzed under the d1rect1on of Brother I Raymond Th1s club wh1ch IS comprrsed ch1efly of SGHIOIS has done much to entertam both cadets and students of other schools ID the CllY W1n or lose the cadets are known for the1r f1ght1ng Splfll and sportsmansh1p The teams made the1r usual f1I'19 showrng and the class may well be proud of the quahty of the athletlc teams The sen1ors have led the school both 1n the wholehearted cooperat1on wh1ch they have grven to the teams as 1n the cooperatron gzven to the coaches Among the many other QCl1V1l1GS where1n the sen1or has played a malor role are the Speech Club Rrfle Team and the Sclence Club The records of these orgar11zat1ons speak for them selves nonetheless speclal commendatlon IS due to the sen1ors who have spent so much t1me rn forward1ng these GCllVll19S Certa1nly one event that Wlll long be chenshed 1n the heart of every sen1or IS La Promenade M rlrtazre Th1s glor1ous even1ng was cl1maxed by the crownmg of Mxss Ianet Walker as Queen of the 1949 Ball The gymnasxum was tastefully decorated under the superv1s1on of Brother I Aushn Sen1or Moderator and to h1m for h1s work on the Thanksg1v1ng Dance as on the Ball the Class of 49 extends a most slncere Thank you An 1mportant event that br1ngs fathers and sons more closely together 1S the1r annual ban quet It exempl1f1es the true relat1onsh1p that should exrst between them as pals Another wonderful Slqhl IS the Mothers and Senrors D1nner Th1s QIVGS us a chance to show off our best g1rl our Mom But now all th1s IS over The sen1or has spent fOl1f hard but eHJOYCIb1e Years He has reached h1s goal He has set records wh1ch w1l1 take much work to surpass To whom IS all th1s credlt due?
