CLASS HISTORY JUNIOR HIGH Sxx years have passed srnce we entered thxs won derful school Brother Aloyslus soon proved to be a frnendly advnser to us The year went qunckly as we found our way around the school Thns class the youngest m the school came nn flrst ln the annual St LaSalle Auxnllary Drnve a posxtton whlch seventh grades of followmg years have repeated Tom Barton Mnke Burns and J1m Pedlow proved to be the bng hoop stars July and August passed and agam we were back nn school Brother Francrs and Brother A Wrllram were the moderators of 8A and 8B Thxs year we had our flrst test of Regents exams The year passed qluckly and graduatlon soon came At graduatton our parents and frnends crowded rnto CBA s audr torlum and lnstened to the fnne graduatlon address by Judge Harry S Chrlstenson r We were extended best wlshes by Brother Cornelxus for the next four years FRESHMAN YEAR Anxrously awaxted September arrwed at long last and the day fmally came when we entered the hrgh school drvrsron Our ranks were now swelled by the many boys from all over the area who came to C B A ln 56 Soon we were rn the m1l1tary scholastlc and soclal swmg of thnngs at the Academy The M1d Wxnter Ball and the Annual Drnll were our frrst taste of bng Trme events at the school As football started the future grxd stars of C B A T Barton B Buckhooff J Cozzohno J Munkwrtz months the hardwood began to get a good workout J Paulsen M Burns M Wall1ngford T Barton B Buckhoff S Lmdemann J Kaperka J Pedlow and E Gavnn were the members of the frosh basketball team Along the academlc and mxlltary lrnes R Cronxn won the Freshman Publlc Speakxng Contest C Byrne fmxshed the year by wxnnlng the General Excellence Medal and our future colonel R Bessette asserted hrs early lead when he was awarded the Plebes Medal at the annual graduatron parade After a year full of new expernences we closed respect rn the exalted posmon of sophomores SOPHOMORE YEAR As the month of September rolled around we were eagerly lookmg forward to the start of another school year thankful at the same trme that we dxdn t have to go through the plebe trammg Wxth the fnrst of September came the flrst work out for the football team For some those early days were rough but T Barton B Buckhoff B Cary J Cozzohno and R Nolan proved that tt could be done Durmg the Commnssxonmg ceremomes approxlmat ely forty sophomores won thetr fxrst strrpes and many of us earned the prrvllege to wear the blue Wansbord cntatron cord As the cold weather came upon us basketball became the mam sport We were represented on the varsxty by J Pedlow M Burns T Barton and S Lmdemann were the future varsxty maternal who played on the JV The rrfle team had nts share of sophomores rn the persons of R Bessette W Morgan M Tabacco E Dalton J Schaefer R Orapollo andJ Falace Wrth the commg of sprtng we turned to the out doors agam and watted for the spnng sports S Chrrstenson made fme varsxty materlal on the golf team T Barton looked very promrsmg rn the shot put and dnscus events durmg the season s track meets and J Kaperka was developmg mto a fme dnstance runner J Paulsen J Pedlow Platt and A Benoxt showed fme potentral on the baseball dramond The annual drtll was a bng event and we looked toward the day when we would be commanding a company or platoon m a couple of years R Cronnn took the publnc speakmg medal for the second tlme S Sulllvan copped the general excel lence medal and M Wallingford won the Prlvate Fxrst Class medal W1th the close of the school year we looked for ward to a restful vacatron and to the comrng thlrd year . , . , , . . . JUNIOR YEAR Thus was the begmmng of the Centenmal Year and excntement ran hrgh throughout the school We were juniors now and quite a few of us had exther sergeants or corporal strxpes and we were assngned to posmons of some authorxty nn the regiment After the poor showxng of the prevrous football season no one expected the Brothers to do much on the grrdrron but after the frrst couple of games the Purple and Gold became the team that had to be beaten The team went undefeated this year and T Barton was selected as tackle on th All Albany team B Buckhoff J Cozzoltno J Ruth andJ Munkwrtz held down Important lme positions and S Lnndemann and B Cary were learmng the ways of the backs The rtfle team started 1ts season off early and we were represented agam by R Bessette J Schaefer M Tabacco R Orapollo E Dalton J Falace andJ Torre The basketball season was a dnm one for the Brothers although J Pedlow T Barton and M Burns gave a good account of themselves on the varslty The hnghlxght of the sprmg was the Centenary celebratton whrch commenced w1th a Solemn Hugh Ponufxcal Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Concepnon celebrated by the Most Reverend Bxshop Edward Magmn DD Auxllrary Bnshop of Albany The Mass was followed by the Centenmal Banquet held at the Ten Eyck Hotel Sprmg sports saw the regular candrdates T Barton In track who won the crty champronshrp m shot put and drscus J Pedlow and J Paulsen were tough on the left snde of the mfneld whrle J Platt was the star relnef hurler and A Benont worked well behmd the plate S Chrrstenson led the golfers to another f1ne season Academrc honors went to S Sullrvan who recetved the general excellence medal agaln G Hanratta won the publlc speakmg medal In the mllltary deparment S Sullrvan won the Sergeant First Class Medal and C Barthe topped the Corporal s Medal Now we look forward to the bug year SENIOR YEAR We fmally made nt Thls was Brother B Rnchards frrst year as Dnrector of the Academy R Bessette was comm1ss1oned Cadet Colonel of the regl H McGlome were commxssxoned Cadet Lneutenant Colonels The semor publlc speaking contest was won by J Conway wrth T Barton and L Wnest placmg second and thrrd respectnvely G Hanratta was our repre sentauve rn the Kmghts of Columbus Speakmg Con test The football team contxnued from the prevnous year Agam we were underrated but nt drdn t take us long for the opposmon to realnze that this was another strong Brothers team T Barton B Buckhoff J Cozzolmo S Lmdemann and R Delahoyd were se lected for the All Albany fnrst team To honor the team as was done the prevrous year we held a Vrctory Dance It was a tremendous success B Buckhoff and R Delahoyd recenved the Brother Aloysxus Memorral Trophy for football whrle T Barton was the recepnent of the Tom McAn foot ball trophy the Albany Lodge of Elks B P O E award for the Outstandmg Player rn the Albany Area and fmally the Fort Orange Amerlcan Legions Lmeman of the Year Award In the scholastrc fneld S Sulhvan and T Barton were awarded Letters of Commendatlon by the Natronal Merxt Soclety and State Scholarships were G Hanratta E DeCosmao and L Wtest as alternates Plans for the Mnd Wmter formal were started early and the commrttee was elected by the senxor class The commlttee was composed of the following members R Bessette D Goddeau G Padula W Gardner M Wallnngford R Cronin C Barthe J Goetz J Ruth and R Brvona The basketball team had a f1ne season th1s year posung a 13 5 record J Pedlow was selected as a member of the All Albany frve and M Burns was pncked for the second team Other semors who were members of the team were R Hall S Lmdemann G Maloy and T Barton Now we are lookmg forward to the sprmg sports the Annual Drlll the Graduatlon Parade and fmally Graduatlon The four years passed qulckly and durmg that tame we may have forgotten to thmk about those who made all thns possxble for us To our parents who made many SaCI'lflCCS to the members of the faculty both relxgxous and lay who have taught us so well we wnsh to thank you snncerely and hope that we wnll always be a credxt to you rn our future lxves ment and S.
