Y I his I-- 9a 4-5 Fmshmv CLASS HISTORY Junlor Hugh Under the durectlon of Brother Aloyslus Brother Brendan and Brother Francls the class of 59 got nts start at C B A As time went by the athletic ablllty ofW Adams R Lavlgne D Yezzl J Parlseau and D Obertlng became apparent Scholastlcally R Starzec led the way R Lavigne became valadlctorlan With graduation completed the class of 59 was on nts way to future achuevements Senior Hugh Freshman lt was September of 1955 when 165 leary freshmen arrived at Unlverslty Heights and began their mulltary careers at C BA With the end of plebe tralnlng football was an full swung wlth P Paeglow C Maffeo D Yezzl D Obertlng R Starzec R Bobblns F Tallman J Loudls M Savage and J Grmer headmg for the gridiron Under the dlrectnon of Brother Dennis the frosh hull and dalers T Quinlan R Byers R Smlth J Matthews and B McFer'ran showed much promuse Wlth winter basketball whlch brought to the fore the future varslty material In J Matthews W Murphy Ron Smlth R Lavigne J Demarest D Obertlng and W Adams they formed the nucleus of a frosh team that was 170 ln freshman competltnon The General Excellence Medal was won by R Starzec with J Grlner taking the Plebes Medal J Wood received the Plebe Manual of Arms Award and T Flanagan copped the Publlc Speaking Medal L House W Zurn and R Murray were our representatives on the rlfle team They were to help to continue the fine reputation held by C B A ln rufle competltlon Sophomore Year Came the fall and the football team beung staffed by the return :ng freshmen veterans found new faces ln the starting llne up ln the persons ofC Boutln E Gallagher R Holm J Banasewskl R Lavlgne W Byrne R Stack G DlDonna J Losuto R Benlamln J Parlseau R Sanford W Maxstadt and J Grnner These lads under the capable coachlng of Mr Forster were destined to bring glory to C B A In a couple of years Wlth fall also came Commlsslonlng Day which saw forty two of us earn the covetted P F C rating The class set a precedent for havlng the largest number of prlvates flrst class ever to be named from the sophomore class As the days grew colder basketball entered the llme light with J Demarest W Adams and J Matthews making the varslty squad and W Murphy Ron Smith P Donnelly R Lavigne R Moore J Grlner D Obertlng and D McAuley playlng on the gunlor varsity The sharp shooters of the class continued their fine sconng on the rufle team Leading the nrmrods were P Mahota D Horan R Murray W Zurn R Hufland W Helm and R Hagadorn The return of sprung found S Krause K Klmmlns R Jordan Rlch Smnth T Qulnlan R Starzec W Keck T Campion and R Devey out on the clnder paths nmprovmg thelr abllntles Graduatlon IH June brought to a close an excltlng year wuth R DAlessandro wlnnlng the Publuc Speakung Medal R Jordan belng awarded the Private Upperclass Medal and R Starzec receuv ung the General Excellence Medal for the fourth consecutive year 32 Qoph f Shi l ,, 'Kgs I . , . . l . ,. ,. ,. , . . tl 1 I JUV Q 'D . .
